Bigger dogs, labs goldens shepherds, etc are big enough to get in an out on their own. My dog was beagle/border collie mix and she was eager to jump into and out of the conventional truck with no problems. Maybe if you have an arthritic or old dog you may have to move the pet into/out of the truck. Smaller dogs may not be able to jump high enough to reach the second step on a conventional tractor, but then they are light enough to easily pick up.

I saw some kids playing on a trampoline last week while on the phone with my wife. While discussing this, my wife says "you do know that they used to be called Jumpolines.... Until your mom got on one."
    God, I love my wife.

Trucking is a lonely career. A dog won't change that. You should get a dog only if you really love dogs. Learn to deal with your loneliness first.

What is an American Terrier? I've heard of AHT American Hairless Terrier which is a genetic defect of Rat Terrier some couple decided would be their claim to fame and started breeding some years ago.

Get a crate. People who don't like crates know nothing about raising puppies. It's their den and it will keep them safe when they are alone in the truck unless you like chewed up seatbelts and upholstery. Don't trust your A/C for long periods, if you decide to hang out away from your rig when the sun is out and temp is 70 and above.

Puppies are great in the truck if you like waking up and setting your feet on the floor into a pile of cold, wet puppy poop.

Puppy pads, literboxes are no-nos. They are for people too lazy to properly train a dog. There is no logic in teaching a dog to peeppoop in the house when you are trying to house break it. You just confuse the dog.

Take few weeks off work and stay home with a new puppy.
