Covenant?

    Most companies that take students are considered bottom feeders by experienced drivers. They make their profits by taking students and paying them ridiculously low wages.

    I consider Covenant a bottom feeder NOT because they are team oriented or because they take students (everybody has to start somewhere, after all) but because of the way they treat their drivers. For example, requiring teams but only offering solo freight. Or ridiculously low pay. There is a reason why Covenant has the turn over they do. Teams are worth their weight in gold in this industry, but Covenant pays peanuts. And stale peanuts, at that.

    Well not really anything yet. We've been driving less than a year for them. They do seem to roll out the red carpet for husband/wife teams. Honestly, the only drivers I see complaining are the guys hanging out at the terminal #####ing about how they're looking for another co-driver...AGAIN! We know several other husband/wife teams who have been there many years and all of them are really happy. The company is not for everyone, but no way in hell are they a bottom feeder, ala swift, CR England, CRST.

    Oh so you've worked for Covenant? We make $.56/mile hauling reefer. We average 6500-7000 miles per week. You do the math!!! And not all teams are worth their weight in gold. If you change co-drivers every month, you're sitting around weeks in between trying to find another co driver. You're not really making the company any money. It seems pretty tough for two guys who have never met to live together for weeks at a time in 60 sq. ft of space. Husbands and wives are different. Those are the teams that work best.

    No company is perfect. There has to be things after a year that you don't like about Covenant for information purposes because there's new drivers looking at this considering Covenant.

    .56/mi running 6500 to 7000 miles team works out to...lets see...0.56 divided by two equals 0.28/mile...and 6500 to 7000 miles divided by two equals 3250 to 3500 miles per week which gives each individual driver an average gross pay of...$910-$980/week.

    Tell me about the math again? Especially after I gross an average of $1,100 to $1,300 per week only working about 4 1/2 days and going home every weekend? Seriously, less than a grand per driver per week for a team, especially a long term team (for example: a husband and wife team that's been working together for years) is flat out highway robbery! But if you're happy, then good for you. Teaming doesn't pay enough to hold my interest. I prefer more money for less work.

    You dont split both miles and the pay...duhhh...one or the other.
    For example...

    $0.28 ×6500miles= $1820

    Or

    $0.56 × 3250= $1820

    6500 mile weeks are rare when i used to work for covenant. More like 5000 mile weeks is what i would average

    $0.28 × 5000= $1400

    I never did understand how that whole team pay thing worked. Still not enough to tempt me, though. And $1,400 definitely ain't enough. I could make that where I'm at solo if'n I'd quit being lazy and applied myself a bit

    Then my dispatchers kept messing with my miles so i quit. I had a good winning streak of good miles for 6 months then the miles dropped suddenly.

    All good things must come to an end so thats mainly why i quit covenant. Dedicated account is probably the best way to go

    Yes teams dont last long unless they are husband and wife. Me and my codriver lasted about 16 months....not bad. I dedinitely made money at covenant for being a rookie.

    Someone certainly sounds like a recruiter here. There has been a ton of problems with Covenant, number one being how they treat their employees. Truth is most companies roll out the red carpet for new employees, team or solo, but if you take the opportunity to actually look at that red carpet, it's ripped and torn and filthy. Too many broken promises at a "religious" company that swears they put drivers first. Truth is they do not, and you'll have that bad taste in your mouth from having them spit lies directly in your face.
