Start submitting job applications during the first week of school. Within a few days you'll receive job offers contingent upon successful graduation and having the proper endorsements. Tanker outfits will want you to have TWIC. There may be a TWIC office in El Paso.

I've done the online school thing.
The classed are much more time consuming and harder in my opinion.

You will be reading a lot more.
Writing a lot more and longer.

However the exception is online math classes. They have programs that show you exactly how to do it with instant confirmation during practice. Its fantastic.

Never ever make the mistake of taking an English or psychology class online.

    You'll regret it.

I was otr 49/canada but it just got so boring after you've been everywhere.
The money you get isn't worth it but if you are doing it to see the country and screw off on someone else's dime. Totally worth it.

Some real good ppl out on that road.

I totally second the recommendation of getting a TWIC card. My TWIC actually made me more marketable when I went to another, higher-paying company. And you'd be surprised at how many people actually can't get one (for whatever reason); I know it surprised me.

And start on that ASAP. They tell you that, officially, it shouldn't take more than a couple of weeks; but I've heard of occasional backlogs that can stretch the process out for months for some unfortunate individuals. (mine took about 3 weeks, actually).

Driving OTR is as bad or worse on a marriage than being deployed. If you have a young wife and a newborn do everything you can to stay near them.

This is coming from someone that has made this mistake. I'm not spouting garbage that I've not lived.

Family is the most important thing you'll EVER experience. You will not get one second of it back. You won't believe the birthdays you'll miss... the anniversaries.... the first steps... the first words..

You don't need me talking about Jody creeping in while you're gone. Everyone says that won't happen. I said it, too

    I was WRONG.
