My issues started after warranty ran out. I dont mind paying for good diagnosis and repair, just want truck fixed. Paying for quality work is the price of doing business! A good technician should check all related systems.

We are by the hour. Warranty flat rate would have me looking for a new job. Yes, we spend a lot wasted time dealing with case files and taking photos and diagnostics in the wrong direction to satisfy the tech line guys.

That is all we want to provide. International is finding these engines just don't work the way they wanted or designed so a fair amount of trouble shooting and diagnostics are simply wrong and lead us in the wrong direction. International has also admitted to me they have dumbed down the troubleshooting on purpose by leaving out critical information in a lame attempt to streamline diagnostics. The problem is, these engines are just over complicated to start with, with broken technology. We need all the information we can get and they aren't helping. Even the best of the best simply have to scratch their heads and figure stuff out on their own. Too bad really.

If i provide the tech with detailed information, what when how and where, would or should that narrow the search, puffing blue smoke(unburned fuel) before regen light comes on, that should put them on the right direction?

Yes, that should help, but it only scratches the surface which leads to many possibilities as to the actual cause.

That should send them in the direction of a fuel issue and why

A passive regen call for more fuel to the doser valve , could too much fuel not being burnt be an issue, could the egr valve play a role?

Well, there isn't more fuel injected by the doser, it just injects fuel during a regen. A faulty egr valve will lead to frequent regens and premature plugging as the engine is creating more soot than normal. Faulty egr valves rarely go undetected by the engine without creating a code. There is some basic maintenance the must be followed to help reduce issues. The dosers need to be cleaned maybe once a year or so. This is not a big deal but important as they do get carboned over. DOCs and DPFs also need to be removed and cleaned. Once the engine reaches about 3000 hours or so it should be done. After that they need to do an air management test and 0-60 mph snapshot and review how the engine performed and then go from there.
