    Sports...meh.

I hate this time of year; can't hardly watch a decent movie in the lounge for all the Ball Zombies.

I don't begrudge them their games--I know I'm passionate about things others don't care about. Thing is, there can be seven or eight people sitting there happy as clams watching a movie, then one of the Ball Zombies walks in and starts freaking out:

"Y'all ain't watching the game!? Y'all know there's a game on, right? Y'all need to put on the game! Anybody mind if I change the channel to the game?? C'mon, who's got the remote? The game! The Game!! THE GAAAAAAMME!!!!!!!"

Enough already. I don't start freaking out about there being a movie on if I walk in and just one person is already watching the game--it's called respect.

(DISCLAIMER: The above comments are not directed at you specifically, but to the Ball Zombies who have ticked me of through the years)

Yawn, stretch, breakfast, poo, wash up, pretrip, time to get this flying monkey circus off the ground. 50 mi to pick up in Romeoville, then short hop to Indy. My two days off have become just a 34, but that's fine; I need the miles.

Tomorrow's errands include a DOT physical that should signal the end of the diabetes craziness. Confidence level is high.

The Hot Chick has decreed that a hotel is not necessary, provided she gets dinner, a movie, and a skim decaf Pumpkin Spice Latte. And a foot massage. And Lindt chocolate truffles.

... Might come out ahead just getting a hotel room if Her Royal Highness requires anything else. I already shot down her request for a date with Asian heart throb Ekin Cheng (no chance of getting him from Hong Kong to Indianapolis on such short notice, you see).

I'm upset that a 3 year old boy was accidentally shot and killed by his 6 year old brother who was playing with his father's gun.

Authorities have taken the father into custody and charged him with child endangerment.

There have been some knee jerk reactions around the breakfast bar about gun ownership rights being violated.

A child is dead. This isn't about second amendment rights. This is about responsibility. If you have small children and are a gun owner, it is incumbent upon you as the adult, the responsible party, to make absolutely certain your children do not have access to it. Children that age are not capable of knowing the inherent danger. That's why they have parents.

I'm not a fan of guns, but I have stated on this forum that I do support the second amendment. I also support responsibility. A gun, unfortunately, is a status symbol to some people--a toy, a prop, a symbol of their overwhelming masculinity. I don't think those people should have guns. Unfortunately, those people do not have signs on them, and the people who recognize guns as the defensive tools they are and treat them with the appropriate respect should not be denied their right to own them. That means people who treat their weapons irresponsibly should be held accountable when someone gets hurt or killed. Allowing a condition to exist in your home where a six year old boy can get to and fire your gun is irresponsible. "Boys will be boys, he would have gotten to it anyway" is NOT a valid argument. A responsible father recognizes that boys will be boys and takes necessary steps to prevent a tragedy. I havea friend in Indianapolis who carries openly. He has three small children, two of whom are boys. His children have no access to that weapon. It is an inconvenience at times for him to ensure their safety, but he considers it less so than the upheaval in his life were one of his children to be killed.

BTW (and this is from a guy who doesn't care for guns)--my friend lives in a "bad" neighborhood. He carries openly and all of his neighbors know it. His street is the only one in his neighborhood where no homes have been burglarized and there are no incidents of violence on the street. He and his neighbors are the only ones in that area whose cars have not been vandalized or broken into.

Just sayin'--he's also the only gun owner in the neighborhood.

Not a gun guy either. Won't even get into it here. But it's a shame that people put guns in a higher regard than children. That's all I'm gonna say.

Made it to Indy, trailer dropped, and the Ball Zombies have taken over the lounge already. No biggie; we'll just bobtail the three miles to the movie theater and watch something funny.

    Time off!

Actually, more like, "One day to run your errands before returning to work."

That's fine--I need the miles. Gotta run back to the clinic to get my DOT physical, take Her Most Royal Majesticosity The Hot Chick to Mastercuts for her grooming, blow some money at Walmart, and squeeze in some R&R.

If I get some embryo at the clinic who botches up my sugar test again I'm going to get loud.

Should have gotten loud last time. I sometimes still relapse into a nice guy and I always regret it.

DOT physical done, passed with flying colors. Now I'm waiting for them to finish processing the paperwork so I can get the flock out of here.
