Thanks to LadyFlatbed for being honest and posting info. Lot of posters here seem to just crack jokes instead of giving anything constructive to new drivers. I am also still deciding myself on WE or Werner. Barely seen any Werner trucks here in the NW but did catch a Western Express the other night bobtailing.

If you're interested in flatbedding, System Transport has a Phoenix terminal. Most of the guys there seem to be doing ok. New drivers generally make 36CPM,newer trucks with APUs and inverters (KW660s). I know they pay more for experience and for dedicated in that terminal. Werner does not have a "bad" reputation IMO. I've never heard a Werner driver really complain, other than about stuff that's a problem at ANY large cmpany. As far as Werner in the west, I see Werner trucks all over the place in the western 11. I know they were willing to let me take my truck home for hometime in Yakima, WA.

You used to work for Werner? I tried System a while back right out of CDL school but they rejected me. I am calling Werner tomorrow to start with them in LA for training. Did you go to LA? Good to know about parking.. hopefully they let me take the truck near home. I'm only interested in Van and Reefer to start off with. Werner, Swift, Western Express..pretty much the only companies left I think that will hire me since it's been over 90 days since graduating.

Werner is head and shoulders over Swift from everything I've ever heard. Work hard, apply yourself, you'll do fine. Work there for a year and move on if it's not what you want. I lucked out and got a great starter company (System) with a good fleet and sisx months later got a great opportunity with a local gig small company. But the norm is one year at your first company, so kudos to you for doing some research. I've never worked for Werner, but I had an offer from them I nearly took. I've sinced talked to quite a few Werner drivers.

A lot of people just don't want to work the insane hours that OTR requires if you want to be successful at it. Others can't abide being told where to fuel. Me, I just look at that stuff is part of the gig. If you don't want to do it, I can steer you to a day job for $13.75 per hour in central WA. If you spent $4k+ on trucking school and think 13.75 an hour is acceptable, you have much lower standards than I do.

Appreciate the info. That's the plan. Work at Werner for a year. Probably will do just Western 11 at first. I think what I am nervous about is keeping track of hours and pay. I also haven't driven in 3 months so might be a bit rusty on 10-speed. I should have worked right after graduating.

Swift sounds worse than Werner. Just from stories I've read. I just caught a video of an Swift owner op getting fired over vlogging (they called him out over running some stop sign apparently). Least Werner doesn't have driver cams.

The guy that got fired was vlogging and recorded himself running a stop sign. Pro tip, stop signs mean stop not drive through at 5mph. That was that dudes fault 100%.

I would have been fired for that driving a bucket truck had I posted it on youtube at my old company.
