The WM distribution center people I have asked report starting wages of $16-$19/hr (around the mid west) no skills or experience, just stacking boxes and pushing pallets around.

Walmart is a pretty good company to work for, it's just the store employees that aren't paid much.

16-20 an hour in the oil boom area is just as useless as 9 an hour in Idaho you can barely scrape by.

Lonesome, rabbiporkchop and chris886 Thank this.

First I wanted to thank each and everyone of you for the very thoughtful and informative information given. I didn't expect my question to blown up like this. It means a lot to me

The run with Cowan Systems I am taking on pays $16 an hour, so my question now is what would be a reasonable and fair time peroid to ask for raises in the future and how much assuming I provide great services for them? 50 cents a year? A dollar a year? Until I reach $19 or $20? What do you think?

Just a reminder this is a truck load position, 95% drop and hook, with no overtime pay, day shift, five days on, Sundays and Mondays off.

If you have no experience, go for it. Put in a year or 2 and move on. If you have experience, keep looking. You can do much better. But I would take that anyway over sleeping in another man's truck for a few weeks while being trained.

There are CDL temporary services paying drivers $18 an hour plus overtime in Columbus, OH. I'm sure the cost of living is higher in Baltimore. If you were brand new, I'd say go for it. With 23 months experience, you can certainly do better. Keep looking.

Temp services have no benifits, vacation, sick days, insurance, 401k. Higher hourly, but you get screwed in the end. To the op, the money could be better, but sounds like an easy job and a good schedule. If hometime is priority then take it. If you want more money and home every day do ltl or food service, more money but a lot of physical work.

Temp services are usually long term positions and the temp agency usually offers benefits but no 401k after 90 days...
