    Congratulations! Whom ever you choose, try to stay put for at least 1 year, this will show stability and will allow you the oppurtunity to work for just about any truckload carrier in the country. If you stay 3 years with a company...you can go to work for Wal mart or most private carriers, that usually pay 25% more! Good Luck!

    Magnum...not Maverick. That explains training in Fargo. I drive through Fargo a lot. Can't remember ever seeing a Maverick up there. I was confused. But like others have said. Magnum would probably be the best on your list.

    It was easy if I could concentrate. If I had to downshift quickly or got caught in a traffic situation I still pushed that clutch down far enough to engage the brake out of habit/reflex. It is much easier for me to float but the guy that tested me (I used an auto for the test) said that floating caused excessive wear on the teeth and to always clutch. I am pretty good at it now with occasional grinding but much better than I was.

    So you drove an Auto for your CDL test? Did they put a restriction on the license?

    No they didn't. Actually I drove both but the standard was having mechanical difficulty so I switched trucks. Tester said that they would not put a restriction. With the new testing procedures many testing sites are reporting a high failure rate mostly on the pre trip. They (some testing sites) are now giving one day classes on just how to take the test!! Many companies now have autos anyway but I would still recommend learning to shift. It builds character. My test was over 2 hours long using both trucks. It is just a matter of studying all of the pre trip information and being able to find and describe each part and what to look for. The backing and road test should not be much of a problem as a student would have that well practiced. I did straight, alley and parallel. Now you have to do all of that and pass before the road trip. If you don't get through one of the early parts they don't let you do the road trip until you return for a retry.

    I would say Maverick is your best option out of what you listed. The rest are scrub outfits that abuse drivers, especially rookies. Keep in mind, we were all once rookies and we have had to weed through the crap companies. I drive for Danny Herman Trucking, and it is the best yet because we only do the really long hauls, i.e. 1400+ miles per load and nothing goes on the train. But, you have to be experienced to work with us.
    Maverick would be my first choice. I think Western Express would be my LAST choice. You won't make any decent $$ with them
