One thing I've learnt in this business, its not about who talks about who has the biggest dick. It's about stopping and goal 15 times if you have to, so you don't make a mistake.

Nothing probably would have gone wrong but I don't bet my future in probably's. I have a family that depends on me.

I spent the first 18 years of my adulthood being an adolescent, doing stupid #### and having fun
But it taught me to respect what you got and what is important.

If you keep your head down and be smart, the breaks will come.

 

What have you got on there? And I guess you'd be pretty good at backing B Trains. Do you need a special driver's license for Bs like our Multi Combination License?

Yeah ok. We've got graduated licenses, start on straight truck, wait a year, then heavy articulated, wait a year, then multi-combination which covers everything, which isn't a bad idea I'm thinking, keeps the learners off the heavy stuff until they've got experience. In the States it looks like they can go straight from driving school to class 8 which doesn't look like a good idea to me.

 

Yeah, having a graduated system definitely makes sense. But I did ok when my FIRST solo load was with a set of trains. That set had spread too (for NY) and is more difficult to back up.

But I see what you're saying.

 

There is no working up system in Canada (at least Ontario)... You can go right from school and the next day be hauling 140,000lbs (and more) which I think is wrong... I think you need to work up to the heavy weights but then again we have had new guys in our department at work who got the commercial licence (paid by the city) and were hauling heavy right away.. In the snow and on large steep hills... Counting the lucky stars we actually haven't had anyone get into a accident..

 

Seems strange because our two countries are so similar with laws and government it's not funny. I listen to CBC news podcast every day and you would think you are listening to Aussie news (except for snow & ice lol).
