So DOT caught me with my pants down yesterday.. not literatly. Lol

Got pulled into an inspection site in NY on 87. It was training day for the new guys. OK no problem. They go through everything then want to see in the trailer.. 10 kilos of Peruvian cocaine... just kidding. Seriously though they got me for load securement. Not because the front but the little space between the compacted paper bales and the wall. That's pretty much the main thing we haul and they always load them straight down the middle leaving space on both sides. Apparently there should be dunnage bags in the space between the wall all the way back. I did not argue that because they had a point, should be loaded differently IMO. not sure what i should do for future reference because i know the shipper wont change it because theyve done it that way for years. To top it all off, i switched into a new truck, when i did so of course i checked my permits to be up to date but failed to notice one major problem.. no truck regristration in the truck.. after the inspection was done the new guy happened to notice there was no ifta sticker.

At this point im laughing for being such an idiot. the officers were nice guys though and we #### chatted for awhile. I guess I needed a slap of reality as I told them. They didn't give me any tickets but that's a heavy hit to my PSP which sucks. Registration and ifta sticker totally my fault, whoopsie. But what if this were to replay in the future again with the load securement? Am I seriously supposed to carry around dunnage bags? I haul these loads like every other day.

does that shipper have those inflatable bags..???

if so, maybe they can be "deflated (sorry Mr. Brady) and reflated the next time.???

maybe in the future, on a few bags will do, as they may not climb on top to view all the way down the trailer.>???

they can break the seal, reseal it with a DOT one, provide the driver with DOT documents for proof as to who opened it up. . i have had that happen a time or two.

Oh yeah, they climbed up and walked back. Was odd! Lol and I talked with the coporate office for the shipper, she called me while detained, and she said they dont ever do that, dont have them and dont plan to.

And no seal, I figure they would have broke it anyways because they were using mw as a training exercise. Who knows though, I will seal em from now on regardless.

They can take your seal off whenever they want. As far as load securement, they've gone seriously overboard in the wrong direction. Seems they want us to chain, strap, and tarp every box inside a van or reefer. Waaay beyond ridiculous imnsho....

the dunnage bags aren't reliably reuseable.. carry your own seals?

The reason I brought up the seal is because I have never had an inspector break one. It seemed to deter them from looking in the trailer, maybe they didn't want to do the extra paperwork involved? Just a thought.

You can't make this stuff up.....The space between the bale and the wall, in a van, wow....I used to load marble dust out of GA, 11 pallets, 5 up front and 6 to rear in a 48' van, 44k.....There was a LOT of space...Maybe load the space with paper shredded from all the paper nonsense they generate....Sounds like, well, can't find anything substantial, so, just find something, anything, to write paper on.....NY, home of fines, fees, & taxes...
