It is a choice.

Is that for STL ? There are several companies that don't based on my experience over the years.

Lower pay is one thing but this team was sent on solo loads, how can one live with 600.00 a week between 2 drivers? Why did SLT charge them to idle in 100 degree weather?Bet the office staff wouldn't put up with it.Its not just the low pay but everything combined.TruckDuo Thanks this.

The $1050/week is for drivers that do NOT have their security clearance. Once you have obtained your clearance (which these drivers could not have done in a month) your pay goes up to $1200/week guaranteed whether you run 5 miles or 5,000 miles. Our AVERAGE is 3500 miles per week. At our last raise our WEEKLY paid bonus was .09¢ per mile. That is an AVERAGE of $315 per week per driver making the pay (again, on AVERAGE) $1515 per driver. We also have NEVER had to pay for idling. They hold drivers to a standard mpg to prevent excessive idling (there were drivers staying in hotel rooms that SLT paid for and idling the trucks at the same time). If you exceed that excessive idling and your mpg drops too low there is a possibility you could lose your weekly bonus. But we never had that happen. I should note that we are so happy here that we have brought over 10 teams with us from our former company, every one of them is just as happy. We also have switched over to being owner operators.

Yes. They allow you to opt out.

Obviously, I cannot say for sure, but I would pretty much guarantee they never got charged for idling. The only thing is if you do not maintain a certain mpg, you COULD lose your weekly bonus, but this team stated they were not even eligible for their bonus yet (a 90 day policy that has since changed) so they couldn't have lost their bonus anyway. Most of our runs are short runs. That's why they pay salary. And there is no way they were splitting $600/week. As company drivers, or AVERAGE paycheck before taxes was $1515 per driver. You get regular raises on your weekly bonus.
When you are paid per day, why would you expect to get paid layover or detention? You're paid whether the truck is moving or not. Too many drivers get caught up in the grind of chasing miles. Trust me, I'd much rather run 3000-3500 miles in a week As a team and be guaranteed a minimum of $1200 (we have our clearances) than have to run 6000 miles just to make ends meet. They weren't getting many miles because they did not have their clearance yet so SLT was just basically paying them to sit around and run an occasional hazwaste load or broker load. -
You do make $1200/week AFTER you get your clearance. I know what we bring home and I promise you it's more than $695/week. If you didn't have your clearance yet, you weren't hauling for the DOD.
