They were all junk. When Cat supposedly stopped making highway engines, they sold the platform to Navistar, and through a miracle of evolution it became a Maxxforce. The Edsel of truck engines.

Ok cool, But wasn't edsel a good car that was too ugly to sell ? Just a little before my time, but only by a few years.
-
I can't vouch for how good it was, but it was a phenomenal mistake for Ford.

What platform did CAT sell to International?
The CAT C15 is still very alive and well today,.. its just not being put in any new trucks. It could not meet the newer EPA emissions regs and it was too costly to warranty with trucks that did not operate the way the DPF system was meant to work. Construction equipment run at or near full throttle 100% of the time. Thats how its possible for those machines to work well with the DPF and DEF systems.
I dont know much about the Maxforce engines,.. but I'm pretty sure CAT is no where in on that. Its my understanding that the only reason they were used as long as they were is because International got a pass or exemption from having to use the DPF for a few years. I leased an under powered 13l Penske Pro Star when I was doing car hauling. The jake was useless,.. the motor was solid,.. it was mainly the rest of the truck that was falling apart. That was my experience.
Hurstmountaingote Thanks this. -
The grill on the front of the Edsel resembled a certain part of a womans anatomy,.. men wouldnt be seen in it and once the rumor spread,.. it was impossible for Ford to fix the damage done.
The car itself was a great car. I drove one. It was way ahead of its time. It was much like the later large T-tbird. Had a lot of innovative features that went on into other cars. Steering column swung out to the side when you opened the door, had power everything which was a big deal back in those days.

Just what I read at the time. I think it was a re-worked 3406

Check warranty history on truck my guess is it's a problem child if mileage is that low .. Another thing how did original tires get worn out in 200,000 miles that seems low for a low horsepower truck .. If it's a 15 litre its most likely a Cummins is the motor red. PS you need new windshield in your ride lol

Does it always have to come down to somebody running their mouth about a CAT? I mean seriously what is it envy? Jealousy??? nothing better to do in life? And it usually comes from the same people who spend more time in the drivers lounge than in the drivers seat. Detroits leak oil at the sight of a cat due to fear, a cumapart windows the block after a cat blows by it up a hill trying to keep up with that kitty and of course everybody still to this day runs their mouths every change they get about how a cat is supposedly nothing but a boat anchor.
Well I tell ya what, I'll keep my boat anchor that is currently knocking down 5.5mph at 90k or better gross, and will still smoke a 500 detroit or a 525 red top up a hill 10k heavier. I've eaten 625 ISX's and 600 detroits up the same hills heavier as well. Caterpillar is still to this day a more popular owner operator motor than any other motor that's dropped in a truck and still probably the most reliable. I cuss mine every time something breaks but I also have a friend with a 625 ISX that has dropped well over 40k in the past year into that cummins. I told him they painted it red to match your bank account. And sure as #### it's #### near bankrupt him on more than one occasion.7-UP Thanks this. -
DUDE! I looked at the ad. It's a 15L maxxforce. Central Illinois Trucks is the dealer. Look it up
