Stick to what's best for you because SNI is going to do what's best for them.

SNBC is a good choice, however, if you have no intentions of sticking with tanker and/or OTR then don't bother with bulk. I was there for a year and left for a local position. Yes it's good training and I enjoyed it for the most part, but i decided dealing with some of the more complicated hazmat unloads wasn't for me. Plus i'm making more money now doing local drop and hook runs.

Who ever told you they are slow right now wasn't lying.. and it's going to get a lot worse in the coming months. I also trained at smith and solomon in linden. There aren't that many good local tanker jobs in this area. Amazon isn't a bad account if you're just looking to get experience and it pays a flat rate so if you're just sitting around it won't really hurt.

Tanking is SLOW in the winter months......that's why i / we haul oversize to make it through... It IS great experience to get, but unless you are hauling milk or hazmat, (and that's hard to get into as a newbie) the $$ probably won't be there until winter is behind us...and it sneaks up quickly.

Depends on what you haul,We get real busy during the winter hauling deicer to O'Hare, American Airlines
    And united Airlines
    Runway and wing deicer.

  6. Is it safe to say that training in winter would lead to better freight in Spring/Summer after training? I am looking at the Smith/Solomon campus in Bellmawr and am seriously considering changing careers to run bulk out of Paulsboro.

Amazon is not slowing down anytime soon. The good news is you'll always be busy. Bump a dock, drop a trailer, pick up a new one. Sounds good to me

it will pick up, but you're still going to have times where you get stuck sitting for a day or two. some areas are always slow. i was in reserve and houston over the summer and both of these places i sat the entire weekend waiting for a load, and these are supposed to be some of the best places for chemical freight.

they lost business when they switched to workflow and never fully recovered. some customers also got annoyed with all of the mistakes new guys were making and no longer use SNBC to haul.

my opinion, if you plan on making a career out of pulling a tank, SNBC is a great choice..... but if you're just interested in tanker for a year because it pays more than van, i would say don't bother.

Eh...paulsboro is a DANA tank wash. I've seen a few bobtails there before but it's either a park location or very small dedicated run. The Schneider OC for that area is in Keasbey.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I agree with Rz14nj in that there really is no point if I were just looking for my OTR time. I am interested in running tanker as a career more so than any other division. Things may change once I'm actually doing it but it has been my choice for a long time. I want to do 2 full years OTR, not the typical 1 and then see if I can hook up with a local company and I think having my 2 years in the division would help me out later on when I am applying for a more desirable company.

I'm still young, (28 ) and I don't feel like I'd be happy running a dedicated drop and hook at this time in my life. The last time I talked to SNI they said it was a team position anyway and im definitely not doing that. The first recruiter I met in person didnt mention that. Obviously getting the 2 years of safe driving experience is the most important thing but why not kill two birds with one stone and get experience in the side of the industry I want to be on. My phone interview with SNI was pushed back til tomorrow so I have no other answers yet but I will report on what happens then. I did the HME and TWIC fingerprinting on Friday so that will be ready to go when I finish school.

Good Luck, AM14 . . . doing your research is half the job. Been doing this 10 years, fell in love with tanking when possible. Kudos, man. Cute Pup! We have a Pitty that looks kinda like that, LoL~!
