Lightside....see what you started? Lol Just kidding man. Look. 2 years ago I was brand new too. I think, for the most part, I came through pretty much unscathed. Here is, imho, what I think you need to know:

    1) Right now, being brand new, you are a liability and risk to ANY company.Training, risk, time learning the industry, higher insurance costs all equate to lower revenue for the company. They offset this by taking it out of YOUR pocket. Industry wide. Pay your dues.

    2) Ask for the right things. What matters out here? Pay, miles, hometime, benefits. Let me say it again...Pay, miles, hometime, benefits. Screw the company store, that shiny tractor, and even the sign on bonus. Discount boots....wtf...

    3) There are no 'nice' companies. Some are just more transparent than others, and honestly do what they say they will do.

    4) Whoever you go with stay there for a YEAR. Period. Things will open up for you.

    5) Never EVER listen to an ex CRE driver. They usually have no clue what the #### they are talking about.

Schnieder seems to be a good company to look at starting out. I would also check out Crete. 37 cpm starting, 41 at 6 months, 43 at year one. I am at .44 and home 2 of every 10 days. I get my miles. I have a brand new freightliner. Like sni they are revamping the fleet. They also are up front and honest, even about their ########. There are no bonuses, its all straight pay. If I were not going on choice, I would probably stay here for another year or so.

Stay away from: USA, Swift, Western Xpress, US express, Werner.

    Hope this helps.

Mictrucking, IronRyan and Lightside Thank this.

Yeah on company trucks but I guess if they did they would do it for the entire fleet. Well my recruiter said I'd get a 10-speed even when I asked about the auto.
