Does anyone have much info on them? I've read that they have program where you work their dock while getting your CDL. I'll give them a call this week but was looking for some info first.

    Thanks.

i also posted a question about ConWay, and i was told that you do have to work the docks as well as drive. i did in fact, get to talk with 3 ConWay drivers, and they said that they have to load, then either put together a set of double trailers, then drive, then break apart the doubles, unload them, then re-load them, hook them both up again, drive back *or to where ever*, unhook them, unload them. the only "lucky* driver, is the driver that gets to haul a single trailer that particular night! and, if you don't have the doubles endoresment, they make you get it, or out the door you go. if you do not have the hazmat endoresement, then out the door you go as well.

glad i didn't fill out an application afterall, eh?

Most, if not all outfits that run doubles require you to hook them up yourself, but there are those who don't require dockwork.

Frankly, I'd rather do my own hookup, so I know it's done right.

union shops do not hook doubles, and do not work dock....well i guess it
depends on what shift and how much time and whatnot

Only problem is whether or not you have to switch them because they're backwards, which never happens when I do it myself. Also, this way I can get the dollies I like, with the fifth wheel mounted on the sideways leaf springs.

I just like the way they ride. As one who hasn't drove anything much but spring-ride trucks, if I don't feel some degree of bounce back there it just feels....wrong.

I am a con-way driver and yes they are a good company. I have been driving for six years the last three with con-way. I wish I had come here earlier or even known about the apprenticeship program. They are very stable and take good care of their drivers. Like any work place there is going to be people or rules you may not like but for the money and benefits it is worth it.
