Since I have had a lot of interest expressed in this little project of mine from a number of fellow forum members, I have finally decided to post a thread for it.

Bought this old girl at scrap price. The guy had it for sale for a couple years and was about to chop it up for scrap when I called him. She was in rough shape. I got her home and spent about 4 hours on her with the steam cleaner the next day.

She cleaned up pretty good. I bought 4 new 1000 cca batteries and started her up for the first time in years. 20 seconds of cranking and the old CAT roars to life. I let her warm up for a while. The wiring was a mess so I was in complete paranoia of the whole truck randomly bursting into flames. Fixed a few small air leaks and took her for a rip up and down the driveway a few times.

She sat out in the back yard over winter until it warmed up enough to make some progress.

Finally had a chance to start torching off all the scrap parts. Had close to 3 pickup loads worth of junk that went to the dump.

Set a travel trailer on the frame and now you have an RV.

    How's about some specs! I'm guessing a 75 or 76?

Eventually I tore out the spread double frame over the drives as well as the entire suspension and axles. 2015-08-11 04.16.14.jpg

1980. 375 horse Cat 3406A with the direct injection head. Eaton 15 over. Used to have Rockwell 44 SSHD's but those were scrapped. Housings were corroded pretty bad. Hendrickson rubber block over walking beam suspension also got tossed in favour of KW 8 bag.

@NorthernMechanic what is your vision for the end result? Show truck? Working truck?

Due to the rough condition of the frame at the back, she'll be a single drive axle. Mainly going to be a toy to haul a 5th wheel RV or maybe the odd gooseneck.
