Hello everyone,
I spent 4 years pushing a pumpkin. All 48 + Canada, dry van and reefer, OTR and dedicated. I also pulled reefer for a small outfit here in California, that ran 7 west only. Working for the City provides the money, benefits and security I would dream about while on the road. Getting hired on with the City involves numerous processes, and patience to wait several years for it's completion. You must protect your license and DMV history, if you are planning to leave the road for a City truck operator position. I love and truly miss the open road experience, which will forever run through my blood. What I don't miss is the lack of respect, and unfair compensation and treatment by dirty companies, as well as the harsh mandates and over-regulations placed on drivers. Nothing equals the feeling of grabbing gears through the on-ramp, taking the next 11 hours to admire the country as you cross 3 state lines, then exhaustedly backing into a hole for a shower, a bite to eat, and a little squawking on 19, before getting some bunk time, and doing it all over again the next day. I believe it's the open road experience that is a trucker's main motivation, and whatever compensation he can muster follows second. I've done many types of job's during my time, and nothing compares to the experience of running big truck on the open road. It's a #### shame how America treats the men and women, who keep it's cities and townships stocked with all of it's necessary goods 24/7 365, rain, fog, sleet, snow or ice. Very few appreciate or realize the value and sacrifice, of the lonesome American Trucker.
