    Hello everyone,

I am going to Stevens and am very excited. I know that they (and all CDL-sponsored schools) get a bad rap a lot of the time, but I have done countless hours of research and believe this is my best option. I leave Friday from here in Tucson, AZ by Greyhound to Keenesburg, CO, starting school this upcoming Sunday/Monday the 1st and 2nd. Although I am very excited, I am a little bit nervous as well. I've read through some of the Stevens Aviary on here, but it is soo long. Was hoping for someone that went through the Careers Worldwide school in Keenesburg to give me a run down on what to expect day by day. If not, I'd really just enjoy getting to know a few drivers on here, and maybe run into them one day on the road. God Bless.

Thanks for the response F150Jim...How did you get your start in the industry? Who do you drive for now?

I always thought Stevens was in Texas... Is this a secondary school that they run?

Stevens has partnership schools in other states. They will sponsor cost of training. Can't remember what the agreement is. They had to do that after Texas changed the rules regarding out of state students.

    Hey HalpinUout,

It's a secondary school not run by Stevens but trains a lot of drivers going to Stevens...something about Texas being a closed borders state.

How did you get going in this industry? Who do you drive for now? Any advice for a new-guy like me?

    Thanks,

    Matt

I don't drive for anyone now. I have been weighing my options between financing cdl school on my own or going company sponsored route.

I got going through Prime in Springfield, Missouri I wasn't there long at all... I quit shortly after getting my license and then was hired by a smaller company out of the Chicagoland area closer to my house...

I now work for a smaller company locally doing container work...

Advice to you would be just pay attention and take everything slow when starting out... Get as much backing practice you can when you go out with your trainer... When your not sure if your going to hit something when backing the truck up get out and look and then if you have to get out and look again, nothing wrong with that...

    crunchy and TheRipper Thank this.

I wish i had the money or credit score to go the other route...but in my current situation, I'm taking my best option.

    SHOJim Thanks this.

I appreciate the advice. I'm sure I will be intimidated when I first back up.

Another question if you don't mind...when you quit with Prime, did they place any sort of holds on your record? Was it tough to find a job? Did you finish training or just get your CDL and leave?
