I started my driving career with Stevens back in '09. I went to a private CDL school here in TN then hired on with Stevens. I got a great trainer and I learned a lot working there. I stayed about 2.5 years with them before I moved on. All in all, it was a good experience for me, I have no regets. They'll teach you to drive with safety as the top priority and that mind set has served me well throughout my career. The major downside is being away from home for 4 or 5 weeks at a time. That'll wear you down after a while.
Good luck and I'll try to answer any questions if I can, but it's been several years since I've worked there so my info may be a little dated.

Thanks for the reply 8thnote! Any advice for a new guy like me?
-
Pack as light as possible, trucks are very small with two people on board. Don't listen to the other new guys who act like they know it all in orientation, they are likely full of ####. Things get MUCH better when you make it thru training and get your own truck, Stay focused on the big picture. Don't forget to have some fun and enjoy the scenery as you travel all over our beautiful and diverse country (you will see every inch of it working for Stevens. They are a true 48 state carrier)
TheRipper Thanks this. -
I really appreciate the advice! Maybe I'll see you out on the road one day! God Bless!

Good luck to you. I don't leave The Great State of Tennessee these days, but if you're ever on I-75 and I-81 between Chattanooga and Bristol make sure and wave to me.

They did away with dumb and dumber, revamped the whole program. Somd of the requirements remain the same, the mountains, all 5 regions etc., but now you will watch videos and take tests to move up, and rather than miles driven, it is based on hours driven. Expect about 6 weeks with a trainer, then on to grad fleet.
Good Luck.Last edited: Oct 27, 2015
