So, a dry van rate going from Northern Cali to Kansas City for 1.16pm isn't a great offer? The listing broker sure thought it was...So did someone else, it was covered less than 5 minutes later. Some drivers disrespect themselves as well.

The sad thing is most people do not understand. your job is driving the truck. your business is running your truck for a profit. Most people who want to own a truck never understand this and think a check at the end of the week equals a profit, they do not care it took 1500 dollars to make 1000. sadly they end up broke and truck held together with bailing wire and duct tape. If you can not even read or have a profit and loss statement do us all a favor and lock you doors and go work at McDonalds

I gave up using load boards. I still get calls from brokers and all I say is "if you think that's a great rate, but a truck and trailer and do it" and hang up. simple as that.

Don't be blaming the broker. If the customers paid more you would be getting more. Do we take a cut? Yes, but do you want to spend hours on the phone hoping to find a shipper willing to give you a load? I typically have to contact shippers 10-20 times before they will have me quote a rate. Even then I may not get the load.
Like I said before I have customers asking me to post loads for 50cpm. I don't because that would be disrespectful, and it would lower the rates DAT and other boards use

Thanks but can you not agree that many brokers don't care one bit? They even drag good brokers down too.

Most all you people think brokers are taking all the money. That's just not true. I have two friends who are brokers and I help them out quoting rates for shippers.

Here's how it goes. A shipper puts out a request for bids on a lane. That's usually something regular. The lowest bid from a broker gets the contract. The broker can post any rate they want. If it's too low the load doesn't move or is moved by someone who either won't make it there or shows up 3 days late. That doesn't last for long and the shipper dumps the broker and starts the bid process over again.

If it's a regular run you can make out well for everyone. One broker I helped got the lowest bid. 7 loads a day 7 days a week. She took $50 on each load. The rate was so good they were all eaten up by one trucker and his friends and their friends. They even came up with a system where they all communicated in case of a breakdown or someone wanted to go home.

Many shippers tell the broker what they will pay and that's it. The broker may post the load and make $50 on the load but it's still too low and doesn't move. The shipper starts to raise the price a little at a time until it moves. Those loads are usually handled by every broker under the sun. You can see the same load listed by everyone with the price varying by $10. Some brokers have access to a drivers ITS account like mine. Then they can see what other brokers are posting and they can raise their posted rate up to beat out the others.

Then you can see a broker listing the same load as others but their rate is like $1,000 more then everyone else. They have a credit rating of a "D" and days to pay is 60 days and they have outstanding claims against them. Chances are their going out of business and have no intention of paying you. Their going to take the money and run.

As far as FSC. I think 99% of you don't have a clue how that works and under what circumstances.

I have to disagree with you because my company have customer freight and i have not gotten a load under 2 dollars a mile. So i have to disagree with you that shippers are not paying good rates and brokers are not skimming off the top. Perfect example of how i know a broker is not playing fair, i call to book a load from a well known brokering company. The load was picking up on a military base and going to another military base. So i know it had to be a government load and they wanted me to haul that load for a 1.30 a mile. Another example is when i tried to book a load with another big broker company and they tried to skim 500 dollars off the top. I called to book a load picking up at amazon and i seen the load on the load board so i called for the load and talk to one broker he offer me 1300 on the load, but i had to talk to another broker to book it and i guess she didnt know the other broker give me the rate already and so she proceed to offer me $800 dollars for that same load i told her that i talk to another broker and he give me a different price. Then she start to stutter because she knew i caught her in the lie. So she start talking about let me ask my boss about it. Come back and still tried to offer me $800. Man i just said forget and just hung the phone up. So with all do respect im pretty sure its not the shippers that driving down these rates but its brokers, because they know they got the upper hands now. But at the end of the day they just hurting they self, Because the playing field is gonna change and all the bridges they burnt they gonna have to come back across.
