I'm seriously thinking of buying a used Schneider truck after the first of the year. I'm driving one of the Columbia's now. I want to pull tanks as an OO for Schneider. I know most of Schneider's tank trucks are 58" or 70" XTs. But after this Columbia the 58" sounds small and they only list 4 of the 70" XTs for sale.
The C120s are a 72" raised roof. I've seen them pulling lots of flatbeds but only a couple of tanks. Is there a real negative to pulling.tanks with a raised roof?

Alot more wind resistance with a big old condo sleeper rather than a flat for tanks. The tanks are normally pretty hidden by a flat top, plus the added weight of a condo = less in the tank.

many of the chemical plants have very low clearance due to overhead piping and loading racks can be tight,
some places will not allow high rise tractors

Some places have short load racks, meaning if you're 13'6 you won't fit. If I was pulling a tank I would have a stand-up sleeper, as tanks are generally taller than a flattop and the trailer would be bucking more wind. I like having room anyway...

Not only do some plants have low clearances as Slim Shady said, some of them also have very tight turns (Albemarle in Pasadena, TX is one such place). If the 58" flattop has a shorter wheelbase than the 70", get one of those. It'll be more maneuverable and weigh less.

Yep. Weight is a big deal. Nearly all your loads are gonna be 45k. Schneider actually has a weight limit your tractor can hit bobtail. Make sure you find out what it is and go from there. You def are going to be restricted to where you can go if you're higher than a mid roof.

i thought about becoming an o/o for bulk when i was still working there and i'm 99% sure they won't let you lease on with a condo sleeper.

Thanks all! The wind and weight I had anticipated but I hadn't thought about the low clearances! Thanks for the help!

Unless you are around 5 ft tall, you cant stand up straight in one of the flat tops. That gets old in a hurry.
