I'm a bit lost, were you exceeding the speed limit or not?. I know you said you had cruise set at 67, but if rolling downhill there aren't many vehicles will prevent you going above that speed by applying the brakes to maintain your set speed.

But I'm still lost in your story, what did he give you the warning for? Going 67 in a 70 zone, or did the truck pick up speed on the hill?

This is why I don't trust cruise when going downhill, even when empty, because of how it delays the jakes. You can gain too much speed during that delay.

 

He just used speed as an excuse to pull you over for an inspection. No mystery about it.

 

Since it sounds like he gave you a short inspection it will go on your record. I know this because I had the same thing happen to me at the beginning of the year. 61 in a 55 for me bobtail. He asked me what speed I was going and I told him honestly which is probably why I got out of a speeding ticket. It showed up on the CSA website a month after I got it.
