8 years (with the exception of my mistake with GTI) but I haven't had thanksgiving in almost 12 years. It's just another day, you can make it up another time

Now, I have a good life and a hot chick and a good rapport with everyone at this company. I don't kiss anyone's ###, I do my job and when I need something, they're on top of it because, wait for it, I earned it. I didn't expect it. I didn't put my hand out and cry when it didn't go my way. I earned everything I got, in my personal life, the respect of my fellow drivers here and on the road and by Lessors, Inc. I'm pretty proud of standing out in a company with over 400 trucks. You can do it too, I don't know why you can't see that.rexmanno, Weeble Kneeble, Ougigoug and 4 others Thank this. -
Sounds like you 2 are well acquainted

I can see both points of view here, however, I think that if a driver wants to be home for a national holiday they should he able to. Not all drivers care if they get home, but some do, and should be allowed to. We give enough if our lives to these carriers.

I wouldn't put up with it. If I put in for TAH. I expect to get it when I ask for it. There's a reason I'm asking to go home when I ask. There's plenty of jobs out there for drivers with experience and clean records

If a driver wants dependable and frequent home time, then they need to find the right carrier. Lessors and Magnum and Holland and similar are not that carrier. Some drivers want different things out of the job. For some, me included, if I'm going to truck, I'm going to truck coast to coast. And there is no coast to coast job that will get you home frequently or on time and every time you request. Some like 48 OTR, some like regional, some like local. Different strokes for different folks. But I resent anyone trying to tell me or others who enjoy and expect to stay out 4,6 8 weeks at a time that we are slaves who won't stand up for ourselves. If I wanted or needed to be home frequently/regularly, I would work somewhere else.
Arkansas, Cranky Yankee and Ougigoug Thank this. -
I agree with both sides, as driver's that's why we got hired to run to the best of our ability no matter what all types of situations weather we are out there. I personally run hard as I can, sleep at shippers and cons when I can, deliver early if at all possible, getting there and on to the next. On the other hand it doesn't matter if I'm with a company 2 months or 20 years, if I put a request in advance for time off after working hard and proving myself I can do this job and then having to hear office people about seniority crap then that's a place I wouldn't want to be at all. That's not value or respect to the drivers who sacrifice everyday away from family making your company relevant in a world of cheap freight and endless competition.
