Just out of curiosity, which type do you all prefer?

The type with the axle mounted like a regular trailer axle, or the type with the two springs mounted on top of the frame rails between them and the fifth wheel?

Those things are unstable as hell. I knew a guy that rolled a LPG pup in a truck stop just turning a corner coming out of the fuel pump. Wasnt even going fast. Those Silver Eagle suspensions suuuuck

I definitely don't like the top mounted spring setup. We have a few sitting around the yard, but no one ever uses them unless it's on a relay to pass it off to another location. They don't want them either though, so if it's a common schedule those dollies just come back.

We have mainly Wabash jiffs, except with a single safety chain mounted underneath and slightly behind the eye and super singles instead of duals. It's a pretty nice setup as the singles are a lot easier to maneuver around by hand.

I hate using a dolly with duel tires . Once you experience the difference in manhandling , that's all you will want to work with. Night and Day.

Learn how to back the dolly up and you will never manhandle one again. Unless you work at UPS then you just call the spotter over with his dolly tender.

I prefer the other kind myself. They're lighter and easier to "manhandle". :)

They seem to ride a bit smoother too. I did notice the occasional one however that needed a pair of vice grips on the pull handle to unlatch the fifth wheel.

The absolute worst are the ones with landing gear on them. Idiots always manage to destroy the wheel so you can't move it.

I'll be honest and say that I've only pulled them once or twice. They just look to me like they'd have more roll to them. Any truth to that?

I couldn't really tell the difference. Then again, when I pull pups I'm rather meticulous with my hookups. I believe in scaling every load.

I have a feeling the issue someone mentioned earlier of a driver flipping his tail may have been due to unmanifested freight on it, making the tail trailer heavier than the lead. Stranger things have happened.

Who said I could not back ? And guess you wait for the spotter to get back to work the next day , at a dark term? Or the other drivers just shove the dolly and the eye is pointed toward the curb , call a wrecker ? Get real.
