I knew a guy years ago(when CRE was a good outfit) who was 6'5" and weighed 435lbs. Driving a w9 with a 42" sit-in sleeper. I could hardly believe he fit behind the wheel, let alone slept in that little box. Sadly, Norm was killed a few years back when his student rolled the truck at the bottom of Parley's Canyon. Helluva good guy

The best story I have actually involves Schneider. Back in 99, I had just started driving and was in Kentucky for the first time, don't remember where.
I stop at a Pilot and easily find a spot(you could, back in the day) and the evening chatter starts up on the cb, everyone is telling jokes and whatnot.
Then a SNI Cabover pulls in and immediately tries to nose in a spot. This was a great rectangle parking lot with parking spaces on either end and loads of room, but this turkey couldn't do it.
We're all talking smack about him, and then a truck pulls out in what was the easiest spot in the lot, directly across from the store.
He throws it in reverse, high tails it over there and backs it in in one shot lol. Then he gets out.

This dude was 5 minutes off the plane from Jamaica. Long dreads, HUGE puffy multicolored tam and enough swagger that I would break a hip if I tried.

He starts jive walking toward the store and apparently his truck missed him already because it started to follow him. The dummy didn't set the brakes.
So here he is moving up to the store and the truck is about 10 feet right behind him, moving at the same speed he is.
Everyone is talking over each other on the cb, yelling(like he could hear, he was outside), honking their horns. Finally the dude turns around, sees the truck, and just about goes white. Hops in and backs it up(again lol) and never comes back outside the entire night lol.

Bulk driver at Portland OC...like DFO, this is what he said...Readers Digest version:
High roller in Vegas, knows all the hotel managers and gets comp vip suites all the time, along with shows which is how he met Cher, who is now a personal friend. Added that Cher is the only woman he would ever consider cheating on his wife with...added that wife has already given him permission to make a play.
Was a Captain in the Air Force and flew Air Force One until he was drummed out for vision problems...President Reagan did attempt to intercede on his behalf.
Has a number of rare gem mines/claims and has written a number of books on mineralogy.
He was filthy, dressed like a pauper, spoke in truncated and grammatically incorrect sentences.
Of course he was a million miler and had hauled a top secret load to area 51.
I was floored, absolutely gobsmacked...a priceless memory I will cherish forever.
Thanks DFO for reminding me how rich a child's imagination can be...and they say children are not allowed to do this job...poppy ####! !

For a brief time in the 70's, I drove for a company that actually did those sort of loads, although I didn't have the clearance to do them. How he described it.... isn't how they do it.

I was eating dinner at that creepy TA restaurant in Binghamton, NY. Sit down next to this driver and start talking to him. Guys in his mid to late 50's and looks it.

Conversation progresses, and he pulls out his phone and starts showing me pictures of his "girlfriend". Pretty attractive woman in her early 30's. Hmm, interesting.

He then goes on explaining that they've never met yet and that she's a fellow truck driver from Russia. She's really into him and wants to move to the states so they can meet and be together, and she's interested in marrying him.

Of course, she can't afford it and needs him to cover the costs to get over here and to help her gain citizenship after they're married. Of course, she also mentioned that she and her "brother" are inseparable and that he needs to pay his way over as well.

Driver states "you know, I have no idea what she sees in me". For his sake I wanted to just come out and say it but didn't want to destroy his hopes lol

That story is almost as sad as that TA. Wtf is with that place? It looks like it used to be an old run down car lot that they attached a restaurant to. :happy6:

I know a guy that fell for that. He's unemployed and lives in a shack with his mother in Tennessee. He came up with some money and sent to the beautiful Russian woman. Put on his old worn out suit and went to the airport in Nashville to meet her and of course she didn't arrive. It's a complicated process to get a mail order bride and anyone wanting money for a plane ticket is scamming. Took me 8 months and a mountain of paperwork and two international trips to get mine.
