I want to make a move to a serious private fleet or local company in a daycab. I am a very hard worker but I do not want to be used as a fool for my labors. I want a company that I can retire at. A company I can move up through my labors and make some serious checks. I am former military in infantry and got into trucking. I like home time but not afraid of pulling 12 hour days 5 days a week for the right pay. What is your advice and where should I be looking?? I don't want to be run like a dog on a dead end street. I want to move up and get paid. I'm making like 1000 a week and it's a serious grind. I want more like 1800 a week or more. Is this possible at a company??. I have almost 3 years exp mostly multiple stop dedicated stuff and nothing serious on my record. I'm pretty clean with csa. I need some advice. Appreciated.

Put some money away. Do some research and learn the business side of trucking. If you are a serious go getter,.. then O/O will get you the money you are looking for.

Dont make the mistake of buying a truck first and trying to find work for it. Get the business contacts and work first. Then buy the truck best suited for that work. The hardest part is grinding away to get the money saved.

Once you have a realistic plan worked out. See it through. Often you may stumble and have a few stressful moments starting out. Fortitude and the determination to work that much harder to see yourself through will be what you need to succeed.

If you're looking for local work and making that kind of money or close to it, look into hauling gas/diesel. Don't know where you're located but I have a friend in OK who pulls down $80k/year hauling gas. Home every day, 3 weeks paid vacation etc. Good luck!

Yeah I definitely agree with what you guys are saying. It looks like doubles, hazmat, tanker is where longevity is for local money. I can work with the best of them for 80k a year. I just need to find that opportunity to move up to that.

I'm a go getter as far as doing the work. Being a o/o and handling all that business is over my head. It sounds like a great idea but I know nothing about the business aspect. I could do it if somebody showed me the ropes you know. I'm in this alone. No help from anyone. Just me

Most LTL linehaul drivers make between 75 and 100k per year, at least where I'm at (Ohio) and are home every morning. Some make more, but tend to be out all week sleeping in hotels on their 10s off. LTL city P&D drivers make between 60 an 80k per year and work daylight hours and go home to mama. LTL freight is where it's at. (In my opinion)

I would go ltl your looking at 65 to 70k as a day driver at most outfits. Here is the deal though, most of the line haul runs go off of longevity, so you can get stuck on the extra boards for years if you go right into line. Your best bet is to go local p and d then move to line when you can get a good bid run.

Gas hauling is good also. Bulk cement is good if you like 13 hour days driving day shift but the pay isn't as good as gas.

Somthing else to look at is portable toilets, thouse guys do potable water also and they have a hard time getting drivers because they advertise poorly.

Basically take the first local job you can get, get a good cb, get to know the drivers in your area and make a name for yourself. A good reference from a fellow drive is a good thing to have, it has got me a couple jobs.
