You made me think...even if the fuel pump failed how antifreeze appeared in the engine then?? They probably trying to blame fuel pump to avoid warranty repairs

Metal shavings are not going to go thru an injector in a million years .
It will ruin the injector but shouldn't hurt the engine .
Someone's blowing smoke up someone's arse here .

    drdesl Thanks this.

Antifreeze or coolant will hydrolock a engine and ruin it.

This seems more the reason. Not the dam fuel pump

Just called them now and they told me that bearings in fuel pump failed and these bearings lubricated and cooled by the engine oil so that caused engine to locked up and cracked the engine from inside that's how antifreeze got into the oil...

I can't upload a .doc file, so here's a copy/past. This isn't the actual campaign, just the warranty guidelines for the known pump problems. There was an official campaign on this, I just don't remember the number. Cummins will be able to tell which dealer closed the campaign, and if it was NOT really done, that dealer owes you an engine.

This Memo is for information only and will not result in a change to the Warranty Administration Manual.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------

PURPOSE: When engine troubleshooting leads to the discovery of a fractured ceramic fuel pump plunger or damaged fuel pump roller/tappet assembly, Cummins Inc. (CMI) has a specified repair direction covered under various published documents. This document is intended to help provide a better overall understanding of the repair direction and to reference all associated documents. The repair strategy was developed by CMI, after full analysis and consultation with our service providers and end-user customers to provide the fastest repair to minimize downtime.

NOTE: This document does not replace or supersede any other published document on this topic.

    DISCUSSION:

Ceramic plunger and/or roller/tappet assembly damage

    · Engine Under Warranty – File claim to warranty for fuel pump only, file second claim to TRP 1465 for remaining portion of the repair covered by TRP 1465 (oil cooler, etc.)

    · Engine Not Under Warranty– File claim for entire repair (including fuel pump) per guidelines in TRP 1465

Major engine damage associated with the Fuel Pump failure

Original Fuel Pump failed and simultaneous engine failure

    · Less than 5 years/500,000 miles/804,672 kilometers – Call CMI RAPIDSERVE™ for authorization of the fastest and most cost effective repair including up to the use of a ReCon engine.

Engine Failure after Fuel Pump replacement under TRP 1465

    · Within 4 month/30K Miles – CallCMI RAPIDSERVE™ for authorization of the fastest and most cost effective repair including up to the use of a ReCon engine.

    · On or after 4 months/30,000 miles/48,280 kilometers, normal coverages apply where applicable (whichever comes first).

ACTION: Please distribute this throughout your organization.

Seen a lot of these in my shop. The plunger and rollers are ceramic. If they fail it will take out the #4 main. Because of engines that might be out of warranty rapid serve needs to be called immediately after failure is identified. Because it was a recall a short block minimum should be authorized. You need to get with the dealers Cummins rep as the active campaign has ended but there are still residual cases of pump failure Cummins will cover. If you work or are contracted to a company with a Cummins rep you need to involve that person as well. These failures are handled on a case by cases basis.

Thank you. Should I try to sue dealership for not letting me know about that recall?

What should I do know? Call cummins and tell them what's happened? I'm not working for a company with cummins rep. I'm an owner operator with my own MC, and I don't have any money to pay for that...
