I support following the rules, it's not worth the risk to break them. But some of the trucking rules are unfair and need to be changed, in the meantime I will follow them because I value my job.

Nope. Smoking crack takes both hands off the wheel. Safety hazard.

Let's go old school and push for a handful of whites.

Oh, wait a minute, that's how we got all these regulations in the first place...

Come on, joe. You really expect me to believe that no stoner has ever died as a result of being stoned? If you can make that assertion you must have smoked waaaaay too much

Google marijuana related deaths and the first thing that comes up is a study done in Colorado. They found that from 2007 to 2012 the marijuana related traffic deaths went from 37 to 78. Count yerself lucky you're not part of the statistics.

Two days ago I had some idjit in a pickup come across the double yellow on a curve, narrow two-lane straight at me. Whatever Mr or Ms Moron was doing to cause that lapse of attention is irrelevant, he or she recovered and I did enough of a counter-steer to miss by a matter of inches. If the idjit had hit me I have no doubt it would have been bad enough to be DOT reportable, and it would be in no way my fault.

Consider if I'd been toking "on my own time" recently and the idjit had hit me. Through no fault of my own, I'd have been subject to a mandatory drug test, and while I may not have been under the influence, any significant history of use would leave residue in my body.

In an instant, you're flagged as a user. While you may complete a SAP and return to duty, your carrier is going to make it a priority to get rid of you, and in this business it doesn't take much to make that happen. Now go out on the market, and try getting a seat with a recent positive drug test.

Chances are you will be unemployed for awhile, and if you do find a job it ain't going to be anything you'd even consider in other circumstances. Now I don't have a problem with weed, and in my younger days I'm sure I smoked more than any ten of you put together. If you are serious about being employed in this industry, you need to stop, and not touch it until you find different work, because you just can't guarantee that that idjit will miss you and not start a chain of events that will really screw up your life.
