I applied to 4 companies recently. The only one that had issue with my criminal record was jb hunt. I go to oreintation on monday with earl henderson, their application didnt even ask about felonies or misdemeanors.
If your felonies are 5 years or older you wont have to hard of a time finding work. Companies care more about speeding tickets and accidents. -
If you had any idea just how many CDL holders have felony records it would shock you. Charges that run from simple drugs to things like assault and even murder. During one of my orientations a guy told the group if you have a record get a paper from us and fill it out. A while later I saw this guy in the hall and asked him about that form. He showed one to me and said every orientation class he has there are several that fill the form out. Relax about your record. Fully disclose it during the hiring process. Let me tell you why carriers want to know. First reason is a lot of carriers have freight lanes that go through Canada. Generally speaking a felony record blocks your entry. The other reason is some carriers have contracts that involve things like mail and entering secure areas.
A felony record will NOT keep you from getting a haz-mat endorsement or a TWIC card. They look at the charge and the time span.
Edited
I had a problem and needed to reboot my computer.
I just want to be clear about my hazmat and twic card comment. In the link below you will find the information. This is from the twic card website but it applies to hazmat as well.

KriegHund Thanks this. -
Just wanted to say...it was refreshing to hear a question along these lines in which the OP took ownership of the question...I'm so tired of the whiners and victims askin about background checks and then blaming someone else. Hats off to ya OP you're gonna do fine. My only advice to ya is listen to what @Chinatown tells you that cat knows his stuff. See ya out there!
KriegHund Thanks this.
