Everybody is different, I have weak ankles so tennis shoes last me for years. Always wear work boots or my Harley boots out to eat with my wife. Pants.... we have a 40,000 gallon unground pool and I don't even wear shorts around it unless I'm actually gonna get in it. 99.9% of the time I have jeans, boots, and at least a good tee-shirt with my suspenders, unless I'm wearing my bib overalls. But just being a slouch while on your trailer chaining / unchaining, just don't understand it. Lot of guys wear shorts, but the bums with their butt crack shining and food spots on their shirts are ridiculous.

At the end of the day, i don't respect, nor do I want respect or other platitudes from people who think that how I dress for (physical) work is a reflection of anything other than how I dress. I'd wear the same type of clothes throwing chains and tarps as I would to the gym, provided the shipper/receiver doesn't have some kind of arbitrary dress code requiring pants (as if a thin layer of denim is going to provide protection). (i wouldn't wear shorts in a non-casual environment. Oh, and sweatpants are never appropriate)
You can draw all the conclusions you want from my shorts, moisture-wicking shirt and tennis shoes. You're going to get hot, sweaty, and messy no matter what. You think you're clean after working in coveralls? Or jeans and a long sleeve shirt? Maybe a little more, but not really. You still need a shower and laundry.Highway Sailor and gonejpn Thank this. -
I just made my first barefoot delivery down in Florida last month. One stop was 2 straps to undo and clean blacktop and the guy seemed in hurry I just jumped out like I drive - barefoot - and undid the straps so he could pluck the trench boxes off the deck. I felt naked working around the trailer without shoes but it was all over in 5 minutes.
As for socks 'n flip flops, a certain ethnicity owns dat! Along with wearing house slippers and pajama pants in public too.mountaingote Thanks this. -
Really? Pulling a flat automatically endows you with more work ethic than anybody else? Puuuhleeeeeeezzzze....
what a ridiculous assertion -

Blanket statements make you look like a fool, one of the best workers I know pulls a van. I know PLENTY of good workers who pull vans, reefers, tanks, whatever. I also have been around plenty of flat drivers who were lacking in the ambition department. I really like this forum and the people in it so I don't want to alienate myself but I have to say it. I've been doing this for 18 years and it's not that hard, I haul multiple machines a day, all of which have to be secured and handled just like one going 3000 miles plus most of my time is spent in a metro area tight streets traffic etc, yet I've still managed to gain 40 pounds since I quite milking cows. Like I said I don't want to get "black balled" here but I like it better when we just talk about what we do and general stuff then pounding our chests because our trailers don't have sides. Rant over.
