I have met Gordon West a few times at the Dayton hamfest. He is quite a character.

Good thread. I have been procrastinating on getting my license.

Me too!! I've wanted one since I was a kid!

I was too lazy to learn Morse Code back then.

But since it's no longer required, I need to just buckle down, study, and get it!

I've got all the equipment bought to get started, including a tower. Just need to get it all installed and go take my test.

Unless you have some basic electrical knowledge, I would take the time to take each test. Also use the online tests that are there.

I'm going to study the first level information, and if I feel comfortable that I'm familiar enough with that material to pass the test I'll evaluate whether or not there's time to prepare for one or both of the additional levels. If so, I'll study and take them, if not I'll just do the first one.

Being OTR provides some study time, but makes test scheduling more difficult. So, I'd like to get as much done as possible in as few testing sessions as possible.

Additionally, I want to actually LEARN the information, not just pass the tests. So, if I don't feel as though I've actually LEARNED the material, I'm not going to go in for the testing.

Do whatever you have to do to past the tests. You have the rest of your life to LEARN all about it.

I'm also thinking about it but level 1 would be sufficient for the time being
