Study "Pre-trip Inspections" on YouTube.
That is a big focus today with companies.JTFaulk Thanks this. -
I kinda got that impression from reading some of the threads on here detailing individual experience with orientation at various companies. Thats why I was concerned that maybe just a refresher course may not be enough. All food for thought and much appreciated. I'll probably just take the full course. I don't see a down side to it really.

160 hr. course is sufficient.
Some want the school to be on the accreditied list and some don't care as long as it's 160 hrs.
If you have any doubts, call any company you're interested in and ask if they will hire from any schools you're considering.JTFaulk Thanks this. -
The school in Moulton AL that I'm looking at has a 160 course and a shorter refresher course. Not sure about all the others yet but I know that Trimac will accept training from any school associated with CVTA, which this one is. The schools website says companies such as Schneider, TMC, U.S. Express along with several others, actively recruit from there. Schneider and TMC are on my Tanker/Flatbed list, but it also shows me that the school has a pretty widely accepted training program. I hope anyway. And of course, they are VA approved. I will certainly do as you advise and call the companies on my list and check with them though. I've got at least 3 Tanker/Bulk companies on my short list (Trimac, Tidewater and Schneider) and a few flatbed companies following those.

I wish that I could pick you up and give you the very little needed training myself.
It would be an HONOR.
Welcome... and I hope all goes well.
Another good lead for DAILY home time and good compensation is the food service delivery industry, such as SYSCO, PFG , etc. Also , many of the grocery warehouses struggle to find quality drivers that they can rely on every day.
A man with your qualifications can definitely open doors.
I'd put you in my truck ... if you can fly a helo in hostile territory making evacs , I'd say that tops wiggling a '53 through a strip mall parking lot.JTFaulk Thanks this. -
This guy can spell. This guy uses correct English. He is polite and respectful. He has his ducks in a row.
Yet he STILL , with all of his vast qualifications in his previous field , shows US the respect of coming on here and introducing himself properly and asking for our suggestions.
We can all learn from this.
I LOVE service members !!JTFaulk Thanks this. -
B&G Supply in Albertville is basically food service hauling to grocery stores. They hire new CDL grads. Small company with 65 trucks running local (home every day) or OTR.
I've done that with another company and made pretty good money, but being former military, it's really hard dealing with those misfits that work in grocery stores. You may not have the patience to deal with it.
The OTR might be OK, but not the local grocery stores.Last edited: Nov 10, 2015
