I installed my inverter with a 150 amp breaker.

 

Do company OTR trucks have enough room in the cab for fridge and a duffle bag or two? I'll have a laptop and iPod etc also but what cubic foot fridge should I get when I'm on the road for 2-3 weeks? It seems alot of posts on this topic are from O/O so I want to make sure what I'll see when I make that first run

taxidriver has a setup kinda like what I put together when I was OTR...

worked out fine -

I tried to turn my trucks into RV's as much as possible -


sat. radio is almost a must - as is a cheap CB (a 89$ cobra 29 always worked for me..)

cell phone / laptop w. air card

fridge / micro /. healthy sized inverter (I had a GANORMOUS 5000 watt monster I bought in joplin years ago - cost about 700 bucks but worked out great...)

I always kept a supply of canned soups and nuts / stuff like thak handy.

I bought cases of drinking water in 20 oz bottles at sams club as well as plenty of trash can liners and a kitchen sized can (fits snuggly behind passenger seat.

never messed with ice - nor did I worry about those 12 volt BS elec. skillets / hot pots


I bought a prsto electric cooker at wal mart (cost 20 bucks)
it is like an elec skillet (household current) but with tall sides like a crock pot..

you can fry bacon and eggs in it - and slow cook anything you want
it uses a rheostat - and heat is between warm and 450 degrees F.


speaking of cooking in a truck

fish and bacon are a no no - the smell will never come out...


dunno - assorted lunch meats and cheeses and a loaf of bread go far

as does a big thing of PButter


look for items you like with no ref. needed

 

Don't agree that a CB is a requirement - but mine was free, so I'm going to complain?

Cell phone IS a requirement.

Anything else can be lived without.

However, I intend to take with me:

my tower computer
my laptops
a 12v cooler (no room for fridge)
a half a dozen books
my darth vader mask
my cellphone (with google maps)
my printer
food.

 

I would be concerned about the tower computer. Most of them are not made for much in the way of vibrations.

 

Agreed.. Bad idea on the tower....

 

Only might be an issue if you are trying to use it while in motion - it's the hard drives that are a little sensitive.

Generally speaking, though, it's not much of an issue even then. Just make sure it has enough air flow and that it's blown out every week or so, and it should be just fine. This is, of course, assuming you have a decent tower to begin with. Cheaper towers with lots of plastic support structure might not fare so well.

Most likely point of contention would be an optical drive - typically they don't read ahead as far as a drive designed for use in cars, so you'd experience skipping and the like.

 

It's not just that. The constant vibration will have a tendancy to jar things loose. Cards, memory, etc. Towers aren't designed to be in an environment that's in constant motion.

 

my question is why do you need a tower which means a monitor then also laptops and a printer ? how much room do you think these cabs have in them ? you start putting to much stuff in there and you wont be able to move around and it will make the truck smaller than it already is
