Telling someone to ignore a debt is bad advice. Even if they don't start collection action they will at some point write it off. Having a write off or any other negative credit information could cost you in the end. It could cause you a higher interest rate on a home loan if you later seek one. There are some apartment rental agencies that check a credit report before they rent to you. A bad credit report could even if they rent to you cause you to have a larger deposit. Some employers check credit reports too. Grab the bull by the horns and get it settled even if you have to hire an attorney. NEVER IGNORE DEBT.

I disagree. Why pay money to some outfit that shafted you? Usually the debt is sold for pennies on the dollar to some collection agency, then the collection agency tries to collect the full amount by bullying the debtor. That's a personal call though; I'd tell the trucking company and the collection agency to stuff it in this particular case.

    Submit lots of applications.
Most companies are switching to automatic's except the specialized companies. Take what you can get for now and hit the road.
