I am not sure what they see and hear but I still don't like working with a camera and recording my voice.
My wife will be traveling with me and say we are in the sleeper ?

I don't want people to hear all the hard breathing , screaming , groaning , moaning and begging for sex that I do. :)

I would hope the system continues to work while the truck is parked and off. I would like it to be available to catch if someone in a truck stop, etc. backs into me and damages the truck.

I don't know if they can trigger and view the cam anytime remotely or not, however, I think it is only wise to treat the cam as if it can be. I never felt uncomfortable with the cam in the truck. Anything the cam can view, anyone in the general public can also view just by looking through the large windows. I never felt uncomfortable with the cam in the truck however, I do understand how someone could.

Having the cam in the truck made me a better, safer driver. I know I should just take responsibility as a professional driver for my own behavior, but it did work as a tool to remind me to be alert and mindful of my actions while in the driver's seat. The motoring public pulls more bonehead moves on the road than I do, I felt the cam would more than likely protect me in the event of an accident than cause me a problem.

If the boss of my new company gave me the choice of having the DriveCam system in my truck or not, I would elect to have it.

Let's go through some numbers here cause if you think the guys on night shift are bored you aren't in this industry. Trans Am has 1,200 trucks a minimum 1,100 running. Reefer trucks do deliveries early morning or very late at night. 3rd shift might have 4 dispatchers at night. Thats roughly 275 trucks a each. Let's say a third are moving or up that's about 90 trucks active. There is only 1 breakdown person at night. There are no other departments in after-hours. Usually 3rd shift isn't the "A" squad. If you think those guys aren't busy or are bored. That's crazy. There busy and they have no time. Most carriers don't micromanage drivers. That's the beauty of this career. The boss is miles away. Your Dispatcher is not your boss just a go between for you and the company. Every company is going to those cameras cause we are easy targets. These companies are scammed out of millions each year that camera is one way to combat it. As long as I can cover it when I am resting I don't care.

The drivecam will save your bacon if your in an accident. Without it the probability of you being blamed for the cause of accident goes up, Why? Good question cause you are the professional driver and should have accounted for a four wheelers move. You are trained and the superior driver in the eyes of the court.
Worried about those drivecams? They will save you if a four wheeler decides to cut you off and stop. Cause they won't admit they cut you off just that you hit them. When they try to race around you while your making a turn.
Think these companies micromanage us? What about the government? We are the only industry with our own police, both state and federal. And they are always looking for stuff that is wrong. Shippers and receivers who don't give a dam about us and will make you sit for hours. A public who is looking for an easy buck. The drivecams is the least of your worries.

    Good luck in this industry.

And that's when you're solo. Think how it will be when someone is actually in the truck with you!

So would an outward-facing GoPro. No need to invade the cab with Big Brother 24/7.

The people that don't mind these things are probably the same kind of people that could care less about their privacy anywhere else. They don't realize or think about what crap like these camera lead to. As long as they can brush it off as not too big an inconvenience to them at the present time, they don't mind too much. But it will just get worse.

But have at it. Keep telling yourself that these things need to look inside the cab.

Let's say someone text you as you get into an accident. With that camera facing you it shows that you did not look at text. No camera facing you enjoy jail. Just one example. While your shut down for your break I close my curtains, if you don't have the wraparounds buy them($25-30). Your time is your time. Really don't like the inward facing camera then buy a truck but until you put up $150,000+ for a truck and $50,000+ for a trailer then most of us have no idea what it's like to trust someone with that kind of value. Some loads are worth big $$ also. A lot of work places have cameras and just about any work place that contains high value items. Just about every dock you go to is under surveillance.
