That's a good point about the insurance companies and the no payment claus. Thats why one of the first questions you are asked after an accident is where you wearing your seatbelt.
On a personal note, I just put some slack in the belt and lock it down, I ussualy forget I am even wearing one. Who knows, that seat belt might just save your life one day.

Only one problem with that scenario... Seatbelts come as standard equipment. Helmets on the other hand are not and aren't cheap either if you're going to get a good one. One cannot compare helmets and seatbelts as far as personal choice. On the day that helmets are provided as standard equipment, then yes, a valid comparison can be made.

Yet more evidence of scumbags breeding...Politicians and insurance companies.Seatbelt tickets are the big deal around here right now and they pull cops away from meth enforcement to write seatbelt tickets.Absolutely brilliant.

I saay... Just click it, for all the right reasons. Yeah, save the insurance companies dollars so they can pass along a penny or two to customers. Hell it's better than nothing! They are for-profit companies. I really don't like being told what to do by anyone. I enjoy riding a bike w/o a helmet in Wisconsin where it's still legal, but at times choose to wear one. Point is my choice. with full understanding of the hazards and consequences. Don't want to wear a belt...? I may not understand it, but I don't have to. Rules are rules, we just play (or not) by them.
Sorry, I guess I'm just being a blatherskype.

If you think for one millisecond that the insurance companies pass that couple of "pennies" on to their customers, I would like to live in your world.

I live in Michigan and I just love to watch the steady stream of commercials on TV about "click it or ticket", or "enforcement zones" and how high the ticket prices are, and how anybody that doesn't wear one is just like having a sign on their car asking to be popped, etc. It just makes me feel oh so safe Knowing the law enforcement we pay for is out there looking to bust these egregious offenders. Makes me want to just give 'em all a great big hug!
I still wear mine (no choice, they zip automatically!)
Muleskinner Thanks this. -
Seatbelt ticket is a $100, 20-minute slam-dunk. Raiding a meth lab is dangerous, and takes a lot more planning.
What color is the sky in that world?
Those ads make you feel all warm and fuzzy towards the police, don't they?
Muleskinner and Lurchgs Thank this. -

Yeah, the the cops around here have done a lot in the past to piss off the kids and nobody paid much attention because it really didn't affect us much....NOW they are starting to piss the older guys off real bad and that'll be dangerous for them in the long term scheme of things because we vote and we were the last to lose total respect for them.We WERE their only public supporters left.We vote the folks in responsible for funding them and trust me,if it keeps going around here like it is now,it won't be long and we'll be voting for the candidates who are in favor of cutting their funding. It's assinine here right now.Seatbelt tickets deluxe, equipment violations on CARS!!! etc etc etc,and our county courthouse has hired SEVERAL new people this year in processing alone, but yet we have more labs than you can count and 100 times more methanites and here sits an overpaid know nothing azzhole in a $50 thousand car,red lights flashing on top stopping a old lady because she has rosary beads hanging from her rearview mirror and it's considered unsafe because it's blocking 00.10 % of her vision.Worthless ain't the word

Studies show that it is safer to wear a seat belt than not. I for one would rather error on the side of safety than not. I talked myself out of a seatbelt ticket one night just driving down to the corner crocery store. He asked if i knew i wasnt wearing my seat belt. I had to bite my tounge cause i am always a bit of a smart #####, but i said i always wear my seat belt. I wore it HERE, i just forgot to put it on. I told him, if i never wear my seatbelt, i should have a hard time finding exactly where the buckle was and click it without looking. I said, if i can fasten my seatbelt in 2 - 3 seconds, that should prove i wear my seatbelt. He agreed, and i did. then he just said 'just dont forget to click it'. think he just got sick of hearing me talk....and it was close to the end of his shift.

Well i can say this much about using seat belts. Back in 88 when the wife and I were in a near fatal wreck, we were hit bad on the passenger side (her side) and she was told, by the police, that if she would have worn her seat belt, she would not have lived. The force of the crash pushed her up to the roof of the car, and she was laying on top of the seat rest, her feet on the dash board her seat was twisted like a wet towel. She lived naturally but with 16 broken bones as well.. So no seat belts should not be law, but your own decision on weather to use them or not..
