Trans Am or KLLM

i work for transam, been working for them about a year and a half now. 98% of the time im home friday or earlier and out monday every two weeks.

 

wow that cool to get home that often. i need to remember that seeing we are from the same state.

 

there is better companies in atl than trans am and klm. just look around where the carpet factories are or chicken plants. find a dedicated route. i work in mount airy nc and drive to denver and back in 4 to 4.5 days a week. there is a lot of companies like that in GA.

 

I worked for KLLM for a year. Reefers DO keep you running more consistently, as folks gotta eat. But for the driver who said he didn't have to wait much for the loading part. I had to wait for 9 hours to get a load of frozen shrimp in Ft. Worth. That sure chewed up my 14! Couldn't sleep because we had to monitor the CB for when the load was done being loaded-as per the shipper's request. And in that year, I had to buy pallets twice. They were pretty good about reimbursing the expense though. But those dang things cost $125.00 one time, and $200.00 another time. All in all KLLM wasn't too bad to work for. But no matter what u decide to run, be it dry box, reefers, or flat bed, you gotta get used to the fact that not one certain company or trailer driving style is perfect-you gotta work, sometimes work hard, and get used to it.

 

You are a New driver and you want to start out driving for a REEFER company???
You have to haul as with a reefer, early morning appointments, late night appointments,
Lumpers, Cold freezing grocery warehouses, pallet exchanges, No SLC, (shipper load & count), that's the one that will drive you nutts.
Washouts, damages, shortages, are you sure you want to start with a reefer company?

 

No SLC? Which company did you drive for? All my reefer loads are SLC. Cold freezing grocery warehouses...whats the problem with that? Get a comcheck number from your dispatcher and pay the lumper. Most of the time you dont have spend more than 5 minutes on the dock or even step foot on it!!! Washouts yeah thats a real hassel watching someone else washout your trailer that you don't have to pay for. Sense the sarcasim? Damages, shortages..yeah those are real hard to deal with too, ya know with having to call your dispatcher about it before you leave the dock just to have him or her say ok thanks for the info we'll handle it. I can't believe people whine about trivial crap like this. You must be another one of those drivers that wants his cake and eat it too. Do the least amount of work for the most amount of money. If you're worried about SLC, damages, shortages, cold warehouses, lumpers, appointment times..what are you doing driving a truck? Late night or early morning appointment times effect all divisions of trucking, reefer, dry van, tanker, flatbed. All the stuff you cry about take up no more than 15 minutes of your time. Seriously is it that hard to contact your dispatcher before you leave the dock about 15 damaged cases of product? Get off the highway and let the real boys do the work since you don't want to get dirt under your fingernails..Geez..some peoples kids...

 

I think SLC(not Salt Lake City lol) in this case stands for shipper load and count. Meaning they want you to count. These are rare cases, though. And some companies don't even deal with pallet swaps. These are not bad things to do at any rate. It's just part of the job.

Why don't you go back to YUPPIE School and learn how to read?
My reply was to a knew driver wanting to start off pulling a reefer........You wrote a whole paragraph to say absolutely nothing except you think you're talking on a CB radio.
Typical though....FYI, you pay for the washouts, lumpers, and pallets......Just take a look at that crappy pay check you get every week. Duh how doo dey do dat?
When you figure that out; then you can talk.

 

All that stuff is reimbursable, not done all the time, and quite frankly not that big of a deal.

here ill stop ragging on you, since you're doing a pretty good job of making yourself look like a tool;

- all the expenses are reinbursed, ever hear of cash advances? you just return the receipt in your trip pack and thats that.

- crying about washouts? there's a blue beacon like every 20 exits if that and most places you unload or load at can direct you to the local wash outs. And even then, make yourself useful, buy a broom and sweep that sucker out. you can even have the reefer running in your case to keep you cool. I wouldnt want you to break a sweat now, after all, it is WORK.

- reefer keeping you awake? you get used to it. the new units are not as loud as the old thermo kings and most companies are consistently bringing in new reefers.

- slc? so you get out of the drivers seat ocasionaly to go count...or do you have to go back to "yuppie" school to learn that too? personaly ive been to 4 places out of the top of my head that require you to count, none that force you to count.

- late or early appointments? thats what trucking is, please dont tell me you're a solar powered driver? dont worry, there are parking spots after night fall, must be a pain when daylight savings happen for ya

i started out pulling reefer and its no different than drybox except for the washouts obviously. give it up old dog, its time for you to sit on the porch.
