Keep us posted on how it goes. It seems to be Love or Hate at LS, some love some hate it. Guy that parks near me has been with LS 5 months pulling van, he loves it and says he is making pretty decent money.

I have been with Landstar for about 4 months now and love it. It took me about two weeks to get on. I had all the paperwork filled out and submitted before I purchased my truck and trailer. The first month was a little rough learning the system and what agents to call and not call. I don't haul anything under 2.00/mile now. I got in good with a local agent and he keeps me informed on loads and what he gets daily. That's the key, get a good relationship with an agent in your area and call that person daily just to see what he has for loads so he will remember your name. Some of these agents are a joke and will try to screw you over in a minute. If the board says 2.40, that's what you should get. Some will post loads a little higher just to get call volume and try to persuade you into taking the load by saying they will take this much out for this and that. If they don't honor what's on the board hang up and don't call them back. Try to plan your weeks out and not just work load to load, you will end up sitting..

So is it safe to assume that if I get my own authority I would need my own trailer for both the LS loads and any other I find?

It's best to have your own trailer in any situation. You get more at Landstar with your own trailer, and of course, if you are running your own authority you have that option to get freight elsewhere if you dont find any Landstar loads. Landstar isn't bad, just some nasty, sneaky agents that try to screw you every chance they get.Just keep track of who to call and not to call.

Landstar with a stepdeck is the way to go according to a buddy of mine who did just that! He had a nice cali to florida turnaround. Also was hauling around military equipment.

Landstar is turtle slow on accepting and clearing apps. Just be patient.

I got signed on with Landstar - finally - and I got to tell you it was a complete and utter waste of time and money - my money. There was the usual ripping off of the 'escrow' and a completely heartless attitude. Truly a waste of time.
Much better off where I am now. Wouldn't know where to begin to explain the improvement. New lease on is everything Landstar were not. I am happy.

Glad you are happy where you are now, but curious if you share some info on your experience rather than meaningless venom? I myself have been at Landstar only 10 months, but have done very well for myself in that time.

Just finished orientation last week. All good. Not sure what the problem is. Did you give it a chance?
