I feel like I can handle questions thrown at me but I am totally clueless as to good questions to ask a trucking company. I just saw someone's post about lubber fees and i have never heard of those. I will ask about those at my interviews. Any other questions I should ask? Thanks

give honesty a try so you can't stumble over any untrue statements (not that you would). It's a job like any other just be honest and up front.
GumboSnow Thanks this. -

As a truck driver your safety record speaks for itself.
When it comes to an interview I am constantly coming back to the fact that I am a safe driver with a clean driving record and a clean background. I will drill this fact hard when I'm after a job I really want.
Hiring ME is easy. There aren't any hoops to jump through with your safety department and there aren't any hoops to jump through with your insurance company.
Clean record. Clean background. = J.O.B every time, all the time.
I have literally watched guys interviews come to a screeching halt with the word "BUT" ...
I have a perfect driving record BUT...or
I don't have any misdemeanors BUT...or
I don't have any accidents BUT... or
I can work weekends BUT... or
I can be out two weeks BUT...
The list goes on and on. It doesn't matter what questions they ask during an interview, you are ALWAYS a safe driver with a clean record, no and's, no if's, no but's.

Ask all the questions you want, but realize you may not get a true answer.
Asking about home time, miles per week, forced dispatch, if the cameras can be accessed at will...
You will get canned responses, and probably the same ones as from a recruiter.
By the way, a lumper fee is a fee some receivers charge.
They use an outside service to unload the truck because they don't want to employ their own people to do it.
As a Swift company driver all lumper fees are paid by the company. There is a process I have to go through, but I don't pay it.
GumboSnow, your best information will come from this forum - from drivers who work for the company in question.
Ask your questions in the appropriate forum in the 'motor-carrier-questions-the-inside-scoop' section, if that company is listed there.GumboSnow Thanks this. -
You want to work for one of the companies that promises more pay, more miles, and more home time. Do the math for yourself, and ask how can anyone actually buy into that.
GumboSnow Thanks this.
