haha thats what I thought at first and I got angry yesterday, I asked the new lady today what the heck. She explained it they combined general knowledge air brakes and combination vehicles into one fee of $3 and you have to pay the $10 fee to the dmv for the skills test for when you take it later. I have a receipt with that information on it.

I feel its stupid to pay for a skills test in advance but nothing a DMV does is ever smart.

I took the general knowledge, air brakes, combo vehicles, tanker, and doubles/triples test beforehand. Took the hazmat test today and I am in my last week of a 10 week program. I will have all my testing done when I get through with this driving school. that will allow a bit more flexibility when looking for a job.

As far as I know, if you are going to school in the same state that you are testing in, you don't need the permit before going to school. If its a typical 3 week school, the first week is all in class preparing you for the permit test. If it's a decent school, testers will come there to the school.

The only reason you would need the permit ahead of time, is if you are going to a school outside your state.

We were required to get our CDL learner's permit prior to entering school. That meant taking the combo vehicle, air brakes, and general knowledge test. We could not enroll until this was complete.

As it's been said, General Knowledge, Air Brakes and Combo, but assuming your state isn't running the older books don't forget the Trasnporting Cargo Safely section which applies to all classes.
