I bought an 09 Century w/334k in March of 13. DD15 and a TK APU. Gave 49k. 12.75% interest... but you beat them out of a bunch of it because you put 7¢ a mile to principal so the truck gets paid of quickly, especially if you train as I do. I'll have it paid off before 3 of the 5 years on the note are complete, even taking off 3 months a year. I'm out 10 and off 4 usually, with a couple of 2-3 week vacations tossed in... My wife and I went to Moscow in June and we're going to a little spot south of Cancun in January. It's been a great truck with few problems. It now has 661k on her and still runs great. It had 10 virgin tires when I got it. I put over 300,000 on the drives before replacing them. One surprise was replacing the DPF twice, at about $1500 a pop. Freightliner said that it is normal to do it every 2-3 years. I got a $750 sign on bonus, $500 fuel bonus twice, 4 oil changes, and they topped the tanks and fixed any bugs I found. I run under their authority and plates, so that headache is avoided. They pay the tolls. I've been told the KW's and Petes are now selling in the upper 60's, but without the APU. Momma said I have to buy a new truck next year, so I'm looking at the KW's.
I train.
I have the cruise set for a maximum of 61MPH with the pedal at 65. Why? New students are on my truck for xx hours, not miles. I make them drive longer every day, so they finish their hours faster and get their own truck. I DO NOT run team. You can't teach while one of you is asleep. I make the student drive 8+ hours a day when freight allows and spend a good deal of the time riding shotgun. I may or may not drive, as the load allows. The truck averages in the 8's as long as we stay out of the mountains with heavy loads. Running slower we don't tend to run up on people and if we do (think Prime) we have another 4 MPH to roll around them with and get out of the hammer lane quickly, reducing stress and following the advice of the Smith System to go a little slower than the flow of traffic to maintain a better following distance.BuckeyeKev Thanks this. -
An owner op who trains, actually trains and not runs the student for miles? Are you sure I'm not in the Twilight zone?

I know... sorta hard to believe. I will run team if the student requests it, but only for the last week or so.
