Funny This Should Come Up. For The Last 3-4 Days I Have Had An Increasingly Worsening Toothache!!! The Pain Ranges From Annoting To Almost Unbearable. I Am Considering The Emergency Room. Orajel, Goodies Motrin. Nothing Is Helping.
I Think It Is Infected, Because It Is One Tooth On Top And One On Bottom. Got Some Listerine This Am, Hopefully That Will Kill Infection And Ease Pain Till I Get Home On 3rd.

 

American Dental Centers in Canton, Cleveland, Akron and Columbus Ohio have emergency and weekend hours available. if you do a search for their website you can get their 800 number to call. When I needed an abcessed tooth pulled they were the only ones who had an oral surgeon available on a Saturday to pull it for me and I didnt have to wait for an appointment.
Panhandle- Of all meds, benadryl works in a pinch for toothache by reducing the swelling. Take it with tylenol. However you have to take it before bed and not while driving because it makes you drowsy. You can also take tylenol and motrin together for pain in a pinch, but dont take both for more than a day or two until you can get in to see someone. Just some tips I learned from being out OTR and trying to survive to get in to see someone.

 

thx, thank GOD i have a dentist apt monday am! go to dentist at 8 they will look to see(what i already know!) if it needs to be pulled. then set up apt for oral srg. later in day. THEN after i get it pulled i have to be 90 miles away by 8pm to pick up a load,then i can come home and leave for laredo in am.

 

I had to have a root canal a few months ago. It was a redo on another one another dentist f'd up. Dr. gave me 600 mg Advil pills. Same as taking 3 regular. Told me if pain was too much to take as many as 5 reg Advil every 6-8 hrs. Took 4 twice and it darn sure worked. Still knew it was there but could function with out tears running down your cheek. Good luck . And don't any of you gals tell us about giving birth hurting more than tooth.

 

Actually Duker, I found a c-section LESS painful than a toothache. With the incision I was really SORE, with the tooth pain I was in misery !

 

Concerning tooth aches / pain: Try using clove oil. I've had some bad molars and nothing works quite like clove oil. You can find this in almost every natural food store around. Maybe a good spice rack at your local store (not Walmart).

The oil will numb the area for a while and burn for about 10 minutes. It's well within a tolerable range, unless you get a lot on your lips. From what I understand, the clove oil kills the bacteria in the surrounding area (much more so then mouth wash). If you're experiencing nerve pain more specifically the snapping (literaly) sensation which makes you yelp everytime it happens, then this is due to the bacteria actually eating at the pulp / root of the tooth.

It's interesting to note: Dentists use clove oil for "dry sockets". Dry sockets are when an extracted tooth's socket loses its clot, and thus exposing the nerve(s) and bone to air. This results in intense pain, most of which has been reported as nerve pain (not just an ache). Dentists will often insert a gel or piece of gause soaked with clove oil. Patients will visit sometimes 2-3 times a week in order to change the pack, but it resolves the extreme pain.

A good friend of mine has a mouth full of snags (haha), aka snaggle teeth, aka stalactites and stalagmites (I'm funny, right?). Anyway, I can't imagine the pain this man goes through. But, he said to me one day: "Do you know what the secret is? I brush my teeth every day with clove oil." I think if I were to brush my teeth with clove oil, it'd be like sticking a hot pepper on a pencil and brushing my gums and eyes with it. However, the man is still standing. Given the condition of his teeth, I'm surprised he's not keeled over.

At any rate, the stuff works. Trust me.

The only thing I've experienced with over the counter benzocaine / orajel related materials is a 20 minute span of relief. Last I knew, benzocaine can and will cause nerve damage. It is intended, from what I know, as a temporary relief and under this guise, the company is free from placing extended warnings on their products.

Side effects: sterility, impaired vision, pee bottle tossing, urges to scream "Someone stole my pants" while riding a tricycle down I-65 in your boxers,... just kidding. None that I know of. Seriously, I'm trying to be funny. :\
