Don't think so since that could be considered a HIPAA violation.
The company is usually informed that the test returned a positive result but doesn't go into specifics.

I thought you sign a release from hippa when you do a drug test, else the employer wouldn't be given any info at all.

That said even if they told the employer unless it could be a prescription substance (opiates, etc.) they will throw the book at your regardless.

Drug tests are mandated by the federal government.

If a test comes up positive for things like opiates / opioids (Oxycodone, hydrocodone, etc.) or amphetamines (some ADD / ADHD medications) , and likely other classes, then the MRO normally contacts you to see if you're currently on or were recently on prescription drugs and will contact either the prescribing doctor or pharmacy for confirmation. If it's a legitimate prescription then the MRO will consider the result negative and report it to the company as such. The release you sign allows the facility to release the results, positive or negative, to the company requesting the test - I'd have to research more thoroughly to be 100%, but I'm 98% sure that the company isn't told what the specific drug(s) were that caused the positive result.

I find it funny, they outlawed cigarette advertising, but alcohol commercials, are everywhere.
Seems to me,a few other safety oriented positions, dont require drug testing.
Everyone should be tested..would you want to head over,to the brain surgury clinic...after your doc was clubbing all night?
Doesnt seem right,to punish a driver, drinking or smoking,on the little free time,he has away from his truck.
Most likely his career is over.
