You say better to have it and not need it and all that, but according to my wife I don't know where to draw the line. But it never fails, even if you never use something, the second you get rid of it is the time you will finally need it. or so it seems.

 

Hopefully you wear gloves when rummaging around in "scrap/trash" heaps such as that! Especially at truck stops... food for thought.

The truck I have right now was an abandoned unit, the driver left behind a lot of miscellaneous gear, there were a fair amount of these edge protectors with rubber attached to the "product" side. Looks like they would work well, I've never used them however (cue Mudguppy's adage). And they do take up quite a bit of space, a entire milk-crate.

I have used many times a carpet pad (practically). I got a whole bunch of these 6"x12"x1" thick pads from Alcoa, they work great; flexible, soft, durable, etc. Smell like wet dog if allowed to get wet.

 

That Alcoa felt is worth it's weight in gold. I probably have 50 pounds of it in my trailer toolbox. I noticed when I drove for melton that Alcoa was stingy as hell with it though, so I just grabbed it out of the junk bin at the terminal after they cleaned it out of turned in trucks.

 

When I picked mine supply up from Alcoa he told me to take as much as I needed. I'm not the greedy sort, but yeah that is awesome, I'd take more.

 

He's right! there's treasure out there. I walked my dog this morning and found three perfectly good bungees (made in USA), a pair of pliers, a broken jacknife and a 50lb bag of horse pellets. I'm still looking for firehose......

 

So do you have a horse???? Lol
