I was there a a couple of days ago. There were a mix of the Pete's, KW's, and Cascadia's. I here that the new Pete's and KW's are averaging 8 miles per gallon. The Cascadia's can due the same if you drive them right. The Pete's, KW's, and new Cascadia's have the better wide single for fuel economy while the '14 and '15 have the worst wide single for fuel economy (XDN2). All of the new trucks and '15 Cascadia's have the Carrier Comfort Pro. The new trucks have the touch screen Qualcomm unit that uses cell phone towers for communication and the '14 and '15 Cascadia's have the old Qualcomm unit that uses satellite for communication. The new Pete's and Kw's are Paccar motors with 10 spd transmissions and the 16 Cascadia's are DD15 with the DT12 automated manual transmission. They did get five Pete's and five KW's with Eaton's automated manual transmission, but I think those have been assigned already.

While I was there, the entire orientation group got '14 Cascadia's while a team in that group got a '16 KW. One of the new comers driving solo was very unhappy about that until I explained that that team will put the same amount of miles on that truck in two years that he will do in four.

Thx Macho. That helps a lot. I really don't like auto trans but if I have to I will because of the "On Guard sys". Cant stand the beeps. I will look into the MPG and repair cost vs each of the models (auto vs manual). From what I've learned driving a shakers is that we don't get along too well.. Every one I've driven has been in the shop more than I was on the road. Even the new daycab one I'm driving is in the shop a lot and it only has 200k on it and none of it is drivers fault. Mount for exhaust broken, coolant lines leaking, oil leaks after repair, electrical problems, fuel lines leaking where according to the local shaker shop there shouldn't be one. Just a few of the things they've thrown at me over the last 4yrs. Still think they just don't like me so I try to stay away from them if possible...lol.. Thx again.

Here's a question I've been wondering about. Why is it that new hires can't choose a new truck if there are some available? This seems strange since it is a l/p and not a company driver position. Just curious, not trying to start anything.

Because current drivers with trucks ready or close to being phased out get first shot at the new trucks.
