Wondered if anyone has ever changed the fuel filters on the DD15 themselves. I've changed the fuel filter on the frame under the cover. Had an issue with a T/A improperly replacing the water separator filter when I first got the truck. Since then, I only change them at the dealership. Speedco gave me the filters when I had the service done last. So I was thinking of giving it a go. Can't get mad at myself if I mess it up.![]()

Not as easy as a spin on but still quick. Just take care not to get a kink in the o-rings.

If it's a davco, super simple, but there is a proper procedure and special tool needed.

I have changed both. the davco 482 and three filters on engine.

use lubrication on o-rings. it is provided in filter kit box. use hand pump about 2-3 minute until you feel its hard to pump.Last edited: Sep 9, 2015

A kink in the O-ring was the problem the "mechanics" at T/A caused. Couldn't get the truck to start due to air in the fuel system. Dealership discovered the problem 3 days later. Cluster f--- all the way around. Thanks for the info.icsheeple Thanks this.

DO NOT CHANGE THEM AND THE OIL FILTER AT THE SAME TIME also. There was a service bulletin about this after dealerships blew up a few Detroit and Mercedes due to having to crank them over so long to pick up fuel with no oil pressure.
My DD15 has to run quite a while at road RPM before it will start normally again after the fuel filter.
So do them one at a time running the truck in between. -
On my davco and bypass filter. It's always important to not twist the bowls. I learned the hard way. Lost 6 gallons on the highway after a bypass oil filter changed when I kinked the gasket. Another time I was getting bubbles on my davco from twisting the see through bubble, bowl thing instead of the threaded collar. Doh!
