Hi, I'm a 28 year old commercial Pilot who is considering making a career change to trucking. Although I am still new to the Aviation Field, I am gaining a sense that it is probably best to Fly as a hobby rather then pursue it as a career. The industry is very competitive and it requires Pilots to build experience of about 1500 hours before they can qualify for a job making not much(around 30k). A little bit about my background. I have done a little bit of everything form Retail to Security but most of my experience has been in driving. I love driving and hitting the open road on my own. I currently work doing Package Home Deliveries in NJ, and while I do find the job ok for now, I want to explore my options. I do have friends who are in Trucking and they are recommending I also get my CDL. I'm looking for a career with good stability and weekends off. I do not want to do OTR or overnight driving. I'm really interested in FedEx Ground Linehaul. Anyways, I look forward to reading the topics and threads in this forum and learning more. Thanks!

Glad to have you on board our flight to Nowhere....it will be a bumpy ride, but only for the seat you have selected. The rest of us won't feel a thing.:D Seriously, if you only want days & no weekends there isn't much. Maybe dump truck or mixer...

Can't remember the name of it, but there's a company in NJ that delivers food to aircraft at the international terminal in NYC. Do some research and maybe find the name of the company.

    Found it; "Gate Gourmet"

    There's local jobs :
    Airgas
    Amerigas
    Ferrellgas

All listed above hire new CDL grads even if the website has "experience required."

Check with Superior Carriers. They hire from certain schools and the money is good; probably over $60K - $65K. Won't be home every day though.
