I have a road test scheduled soon with Nussbaum. Haven't had to take one of those for many years now, so I was wondering if anyone has any tips or things that I might want to be particular about. Any advice would be appreciated!

With Nussbaum, there's no real set checklist(at least not that I can tell). They just want to make sure that they can trust you to drive their equipment. So pretty much, be careful, and take your time.

Sorry if this is too late, but I haven't actively been reading the forum lately.

Just ask the tester what he wants you to do for the road test. He may want a full pre-trip or he may just say drive around the block. I use to give road tests to new hires and I tried to get them in a frustrating position to see if he passed the "frustration test".

They just want to make sure you can drive a truck... and that you are cautious. Check mirrors, turn wide, don't get impatient, do your best to time the lights, AND do a pre-trip... check tread depth, fluid levels, etc... They test post-hire so they generally aren't looking to fail you and the test is pretty much 2 right turns, a trip to the nearest exit off 39, a left turn off said exit followed by another left back on 39, another immediate exit, followed by three left turns. Very simple... I think they failed maybe three guys last year and thats hearsay... they generally hire good drivers so just drive like you have been driving and don't get nervous. All trucks are automatics so you won't miss any gears. Autos do take a little getting used to, but honestly... they are safer and easier to drive... unless it's the winter and you are stuck in the snow (buy a shovel and make sure you have salt). They recently put cameras in their trucks so every day is pretty much a road test anyways.

Hopefully he's not still standing outside waiting to take a road test a year and a half later
