If I worked for a small owner operator fleet and quit on the guy. But in the process managed to dent his tool box on his flat bed trailer. Can he press charges on me for that and or just take it out of my check ?

Of course. Or you could just man up and offer to fix your own screw up. That wouldn't be the easy way out though.

You guys make it through a day without wrecking and want a cookie, but #### up someone else's #### you run and hide like a 2 year old.

Petty. You, your former boss...both extremely petty. He should be glad that he got his truck back, and you, as @lagbrosdetmi said, should man up.

Now are you saying that you dented the guy's tool box while employed...and then quit? Or that you quit, words were said, you threw something at him, he dodged, and it hit the tool box?

If it happened during the course of employment, there isn't much he can do depending upon what state you are in. For example, here in my state, an employer cannot deduct from an employee's wages for damages caused by the employee unless the employee signs an authorization stipulating the amount to be deducted and the terms....and that deduction cannot put the employee's check below what it would have been at the minimum wage. Now the employer CAN say that signing such authorization is a condition of remaining employed, and that refusal is the same as quitting.

If the damage was caused after you quit on your way out the door as an "F YOU!" to the guy, then yes, he could press charges for vandalism. If you threw a hammer at him and he dodged it, and it hit the tool box instead, then he can press charges for assault.

    So what happened?
