I too have a day cab and am home almost nightly. If I have to overnight I get a hotel or I use my portable sleeper.

I've got Chalmers suspension. I thought about full fenders, but as much as that articulates I've got some bad visions of torn up stuff.

It would be nice though, the lowboy's got some bad ### fab'ed by the previous owner fenders, but I can't slide my fifth wheel as far forward as I'd like to for some weight situations. That and my hardtail / ramps start sloping down pretty quick, I'd have a real tough time mounting the rear half of the full fenders. I would love to get some of those squared minimizers with the taillight boxes though!

Win some ya lose some I guess.

Nice pics. Well, you could sleep on the hood if need be. Lol..

It's nice to have a sleeper, no matter what size. at least there is a place to lay your head.

LOL, most of the guys I meet could not tell you what is past the first 6" of their side boxes. Not to mention all the useless stuff they had in the sleeper just because they had room to carry it. If you don't use is for months on end, what is the use of carrying it around. With the exception of tools.

With what I have to move it is all about weight. I agree it would be nice to have a sleeper though. That truck in the photo is 27k bobtail.

Added the sleeper. She was a daycab originally, well familiar with sleeping across the seats.

I know this is old, but, Here goes.

I met a guy who has a Volvo like mine. He performed a Frankenstein upgrade as some call it. Here is a pic.
He and his brother did the upgrades.
The truck is a Volvo 670 (2006) No California loads of course
700HP to the wheels dyno (cummins ISX, Bully Dog system)
18 speed transmission. Eaton Fuller 2050 Torque rating tranny/drive line
    20K font axle
    25K lift axle Non steerable
    46K drives.
    Double framed truck.

He hauls a Trail King TK110 trailer which he got for 10K. (previous owner was getting out of the industry and had broken the rear of the trailer. (His brother is a certified welder and repaired the trail stronger than factory specs) Additional fish plates much thicker material.

The first time I met him, he was hauling a Kamatsu PC360 with this truck. I met him on the road about 4 months later hauling a big Dump truck, something like Cat (Looked like a 785C but smaller)

He said after he got the truck/trailer together, he hasn't had any problems with the setup considering what he hauls isn't super heavy. He doesn't go offroad much. Maybe 1 time in a year.

Just though I'd post what I saw..

I could see doing all this work if you were driving a nice showpiece that you would never want to get rid of but if it's just a Volvo then sell it and purchase a truck with proper specs. All the work your talking bout doing seems to be lot to put into a vulva

I remember hearing old timers talking about fixing their trucks and not buying a new one.
I see both sides of the coin.
1 side, many years of payments on the truck. The trucks of today can fail just as much if not more than the trucks of the past. Especially with DPF/EGR/DEF. (Emisisons issues)
How much would a Brand New truck cost?? 200K??
How long is the build time?? 3 months??
Don't get me wrong, I can really see walking into a dealer, setting up financing and driving off the lot with the truck. (at least when i use to finance my purchases)

    Other side of the coin.

    You own the truck.
Just to double frame a truck is about 1 month. During that time, the truck has to be put back together anyway. That is when you do the swap. It all has to be rebuilt anyway.
Cost, no more than 75K (I price it out and it's about 60K, but, I gave 15K for a safety factor)
Drivers use to talk about doing the work or having the work done years ago, now people are against it?? What has changed???
